Can you see any railway trains from inside the ground? My nomination is The AMEX the home of Brighton and Hove Albion. Which sits adjacent to Falmer and the East Coastway route.
AFAIK you cant. You can see it from passing trains though. Can you see any railway trains from inside the ground?
I recall that the 1979 British movie 'Yesterday's Hero' starring Ian McShane was shot on location at Maidenhead's ground and the opening title sequence shows a Class 31 going past on a parcels train.Maidenhead United's place is bang next to the GWML
Depending on who the away team is, the trains may be the best entertainment on offer
Sorry to be pedantic
(my italics)Just to clarify, I'm referring to football grounds where you can see trains passing by while you stand on the terraces
The east stand of Barnet's ground gives you a good unobstructed view of the Jubilee line embankment behind the opposite stand (similar in nature to the view of the GWML from Maidenhead Utd's north stand)
Several football clubs have used Murrayfield Rugby Stadium and you not only get a main line you get Haymarket shed. Saw my first Deltic from the old stand. And you see the tram station. Was at Barnet's ground a couple of years ago. We left at 5-0 down and saw the Barnet players celebrating their 6th from the train.
No, I wasn't being that pedantic! It's the view of the train not the nature of the football ground that counts!(my italics)
So all-seater stadiums are out?
I remember the first round of the FA cup in, I think, 1959 and seeing the away fans excursion train arrive hauled by a Royal Scot. You can see the trains go by on the Southport line from Burscough's ground (also used by Skelmersdale).

One of the papers was quoted as saying something like - “Crewe fans drawn on mystery trip”. Pretty sure it was the Express.
