Worcester for the most part, although a handful of trains a week will get you to or from as far afield as Great Malvern. No idea what the mileage is, but the upturned-U shape of Birmingham's Snow Hill lines ensures that it'll certainly be further than the crow flies!

In the other direction, it's Stratford-upon-Avon or nothing. ;)

I'd be interested to see what the 'loser' is for this. I imagine anybody who lives near somewhere like Stourbridge Town?!

For myself from Hazel Grove it's the 95m74ch journey to Barrow-in-Furness. Only one train a day, mind.

It'd be someone who lives on the Isle of Wight - the Island Line is circa eight miles long and is completely unconnected to the rest of the network.

Furthest from Hull is London King's Cross (178 miles)
In normal hours is Manchester Piccadilly (94 miles)
Although both lines curve a fair bit, so it's more like 110 miles to Piccadilly and 215 miles to King's Cross.
Are 0626, 0700 , 0823, 1030, 1233, 1513, 1710 or 1911 not normal hours? ;) Some people have fewer trains than that to anywhere, and at less convenient times!

It's 205 miles to King's Cross (via Selby), but less if diverted via Goole.

The shortest route to Manchester Piccadilly is 90 miles, with the normal route of direct trains is 93 miles. But you do have a daily service to Manchester Airport, but it's moot as the mileage to King's Cross wins hands-down.

The furthest I can go direct from Avonmouth is Taunton. Around 55 miles. But only on a Sunday. Rest of the week it's a measly 9 miles to Bristol TM.

Batley - and other stations on that line - is quite interesting in this context in that the furthest I can go to from here is Manchester Victoria, but I can get a direct train from York (0635) or from Southport (1820).

I hope that one day, your furthest stations to the south of Stratford will be Quinton/ Long Marston and Honeybourne (sadly not Cheltenham or Ilfracombe any more )

Either way, watch this space!

I come close to being the loser on this. From Sudbury, the furthest by regular service would be to Marks Tey, 11 miles, but the last train of the day does go to Colchester. From Bures it would be even shorter, about 7 miles.

From my other, now main home, I don't really have a local station but the nearest would be Thetford, direct hourly service to Liverpool. I may take this trip one day if I can sit on a sprinter for five hours.

I would have to do the first part by car just to get to the station, or get a bus to Wymondham for an even longer train journey. I don't think all the trains call there though, just a select few such as the first one of the day, so would need to get a local train to Thetford.

Just thinking, I used to be able to get a class 37 hauled train from West Allerton to Cardiff.

The furthest the trains go from Prudhoe is Glasgow for westbound services, eastbound services only go as far as Nunthorpe.
