Croy and Greenfaulds.

I remember when some websites had St. Pancras split up into 'Domestic' and 'International', which would conjure up some ammusing rail journey times between the two.

New St to Moor St

If you hit the right connection at Smethwick Galton Bridge you could do that one in 20-25 minutes. There's a ten minute frequency on Moor Street - Smethwick services and (roughly) a 15 minute frequency on New Street - Smethwick services so it's definitely one of the the easier "faster to walk" trips.

You can pinch a couple of minutes from the train trip and add a couple of minutes to the walk if you made that New Street to Snow Hill, the trains would be identical but the end to end time would be a tad closer to how long it takes to walk.

St Albans Abbey to St Albans City
1.1 miles & 23 mins on foot (according to Google)

By train, if you avoid going through any National Rail gatelines (so excluding West Hampstead NLL - West Hampstead Thameslink) or using the Tube:
Around 2½ to 3 hours by rail via Watford Jn / Clapham Jn / Denmark Hill.
Around 2¾ to 3½ hours via the scenic route, Watford/Bletchley/Bedford.

It's good that we're having this trivia now. Some of these London journeys are going be easier come May (Thameslink upgrade) and even easier come December (CrossRail/Elizabeth line).

Waterloo to Fenchurch Street would require going via Clapham J, Willesden J, Stratford and Barking!
