I think you're confusing Whyteleafe South and Upper Warlingham. What makes you say that?
They are literally in two separate lines? One to Caterham and the other to E.Grinstead?
Yep. Not many, but there's a couple in the morning and couple in the evening.Try going from Yeovil junction to Yeovil pen mill. Via Exeter, Westbury and castle Cary....
Is the direct link ever used?
Yes I amI think you're confusing Whyteleafe South and Upper Warlingham.
Closest station to Glasgow Central high level isn't Glasgow Central low level. It's the same station! There's no way of doing this on a through ticket but if we stretch the definition of Glasgow Central and Queen Street lower levels to seperate them from the High Levels...
Where does Glasgow Central to Glasgow Queen Street rank on this list?Closest station to Glasgow Central high level isn't Glasgow Central low level. It's the same station!
Similarly over at Glasgow Queen Street.
Fairly straightforward journey of under four miles between the two stations' lower level platforms (by changing at Partick).Where does Glasgow Central to Glasgow Queen Street rank on this list?
Indeed, but Pickering isn't on the GB national network, is it?Malton to Pickering is about 15-20 mins buy bus but around 4.5-5 hours by rail.
I certainly remember that happening in the unreliable last throes of the old subway in the mid-1970s. One circle would break down, and people would be sent "the 'ither way roond", in local vernacular. For Partick to Govan there wasn't much alternative.Going from Buchanan Street to St Enoch (or any two adjacent stations) the wrong way on the Glasgow Subway. Not terribly long but very circuitous in a circly kind of way.
Shotton has a newish station building and booking office now (mornings only)I would say-so as they are on different lines IIRC nether of them has a station building. The only way between the two is a long path that only connects two platforms. Also, two names so two different stations, a bit like Waterloo and Waterloo East.

Probably because it's not a National Rail journey?!The National Rail journey planner has a few anomalies. For example, Minffordd to Blaenau Ffestiniog is shown to take 7 hours 30 minutes with three changes. In fact it's a direct train in about 45 minutes, but the narrow gauge doesn't qualify!
Not surprised: mentioning N****k breaks the secret rule 27 of the forum and is an immediate 3 week ban. This is why you never see it here.Suprised Newark hasn't been mentioned yet...
Such services (which I recall as well) are more an operating convenience, stringing together various intermediate and overlapping journey opportunities, in the same manner as circular services. The many different routings in south London which started at Victoria and ended up at London Bridge are another. There used to be a Liverpool Lime St to Birkenhead Woodside service. Much quicker catching the ferry!
Moor Street to New Street is a change at Smethwick Galton Bridge.Birmingham Moor St to Birmingham New St
Paisley Canal to Paisley Gilmour St
It is just Shotton Station so I doubt if it would count. How about Shotton low level to Shotton high level, two routes one via Wrexham and Chester, or via Bidston and Chester.

Are these actually separate stations?

Likewise, a journey from Brondesbury to Kilburn would've seen an Overground journey to Willesden Junction, changing for a Bakerloo line train to Baker Street, and a Jubilee line train to Kilburn. Otherwise, it's a 3 minute walk!West Hampstead (Jubilee Line) to West Hampstead (Thameslink) would involve
- Jubilee Line to Finchley Road
- Metropolitan Line to Kings Cross/St Pancras
- Thameslink to West Hampstead
