I am looking for examples of stations that have more than one entrance/exit, whereby at least one entrance/exit is closed for part of the stations public opening hours.

I can think of Liverpool Street, where the Central Line entrance near the National Rail platforms is only open during the day, and I am pretty sure some underground stations have an entrance or exit that is only open during peak hours.

If its from your own knowledge, can you:
- Say whether the part time access point is an entrance or exit or both
- Give the opening hours as best you can
- Give the reason that you think its only open part time.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

London's Charing Cross station has a secondary entrace next to the Playhouse Theatre, at the junction of Northumberland Avenue and Embankment Place, which (IIRC) is only open during the morning rush hour.

The country end exit of the down platform of Beckenham Jct was generally shut after 8pm but this involved often drunk passengers going round the narrow part of the bay platform this now seems to have been left open until end of service

Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Thetford all have secondary exits for when the ticket office is closed.

James Street Merseyrail station in Liverpool has its main entrance on James St (funnily enough) and a second part-time entrance under the India Building at the corner of Water Street & Drury Lane.

Another Liverpool city-centre example is at Moorfields station. Main entrance is in Moorfields, with second entrance several blocks away at Old Hall Street.

The latter is currently being refurbished and transformed from its utilitarian lavatory-tiles-and-brown-plastic 1970s look, into something smarter and cleaner with a retro feel. The Water Street subway to James Street is classic Art Deco and like the building it is part of would not be out of place in New York: this too has just been refurbished but without destroying any original features.

Basingstoke has a part-time entrance/exit at the top of the stairs from platform 4(& 5) which I believe is only open during 'peak' times.

Useful if you want to gain access to the car-park

A lot of smaller stations would have a gate that is required to be used when the station buildings are closed. There must be hundreds with that layout. Said gate may also either be open as well as the buildings or just instead of.

Leeds has a peak time exit near Platform 7, the new southern entrance isn't open at the most unsociable times either I don't think.

At Kings Cross is the old Thameslink entrance still open weekdays only, although I suppose that is now technically access to the underground rather than the mainline station.

The Water Street subway is superb. But long. And uphill (exiting the station).

Fairly certain that the Shoppenhangers Rd entrance at Maidenhead isn't open all the time.

Similarly the entrance to platform 1 at Twyford (which is a separate entrance from that for the rest of the station) is now closed except when in use, which is usually just in the evening peak.
