Examples of four platform stations are Kidsgrove and Cheadle Hulme. Both stations are situated at a junction and they have four platforms where the lines diverge with two platforms for each line. But Aston only has two platforms and the junction is situated just at the end of the platforms with one line for Walsall and the other Lichfield. Any more examples of either two or four platforms stations like this

Rule of the game is if your.suggesting a two platform station then the junction must be viewable from the end of the platform.

Barassie station in Ayrshire only has two platforms, for rail services on the Ayr->Glasgow Central line. There used to be four platforms, but the platforms for the branch line which diverges here are now derelict and services to/from Kilmarnock no longer call at Barassie.

Tenuous as its not even numbered or used, but Stechford with 3. Bristol Parkway. Kings Norton if the island was ever reopened.

Other ones with 4 platforms is Barnt Green and Meadowhall. You could say Wilmslow too. Not sure about Heald Green if the Junction to Styal/Manchester Airport can be seen from the platform.

Carnforth had 4 platforms, although only the two for the diverging route are still open

Bolton has 4 (well, 5 but P2 rarely used if ever) and has a junction, lines to Blackburn and Preston northbound. Think trains can't access P4 or 5 from the Blackburn line, only 1 and 3?

I'll throw in Strood for 3 through platforms at a junction, of which one can only serve one of the routes while the other two can serve both.

Faversham (4), Tonbridge (4), Paddock Wood (3), Redhill (4), Lewes (5), Hampden Park (2), Barnham (3), Havant (now 2), St Denys (4), Brockenhurst (4, originally not at a junction), Yeovil Jn (2), Pen Mill (2), Castle Cary (3), Westbury (3), Lewisham (4), Beckenham Jn (4), Herne Hill (4), Twickenham (3), Staines (2), Crystal Palace (6?), Tulse Hill (4), Peckham Rye (2, 4 including the Catford Loop).

Then there are some with 4 platforms because the line is quadruple or partly quadruple (Swanley, though when built the routes were 2 track only). Balham (and originally Streatham Common and Selhurst).

That will do for now!

Hackney Downs has four platforms. Historically Chestnut was interesting as it had four platforms two of which were bay platforms each serving one of the divergent routes.

The former Gateshead East / Gateshead West had four platforms (and two names!)

Castleford - two platforms (was just one)

Hellifield - two platforms

I don't think Lostock has been mentioned. 4 lines (2 towards Preston, 2 towards Wigan), 2 platforms on the Preston lines. Junction itself is seen from the southern end of the platforms, so fits the criteria.

Does somewhere like Knottingley count, where there are no platforms on the line to/from Doncaster?

Epsom, which is unusual in that the lines' junction is west of the station but have parallel platforms before the routes diverge to the east.

There is a lot of variation in these parts.

Leatherhead is a straightforward 2 platform station with a junction at the west end.

Sutton has both types at the same station with 4 platforms after the junction at the eastern end for the Epsom Downs branch, the western end of two of those platforms is just before the junction for the Wimbledon line.

New Malden has four platforms, but only two are in use.

Lincoln has three through platforms, plus two bays facing the junction.

In both cases the junction is beyond the platforms.

Baker Street (Bakerloo Line between 1933 and 1979) and South Kensington (Deep Level District/Picadilly Line) were all designed with the junction beyond the platforms in both directions, so had three platforms. This allowed trains on the converging routes to wait in a platform rather than in a tunnel, but saved the expense of a fourth platform (compare the layout at Camden Town before the joining up of the City branch).
At Baker Street a fourth platform was built when the Bakerloo was split. The DLD never happened, of course, but the step plate junctions can be seen, and the tunnel built for the tghird platform is still there, now a circulation area. This also explains why the eastbound and westbound at South Ken are at different levels, as the westbound Piccadilly would have had to dive under the eastbound DLD.

Seven Sisters also has a 3rd platform, to provide access to and from the Victoria Line depot.

Are we looking for a specific kind of layout here? Gloucester (for example) has four platforms and is on a junction, but not two for each route.

Shipley has 5 platforms, being triangular. The junction for the Ilkley (Guiseley) line isn't visible from any of the platforms though.

Dovey Junction is a variation on the Cheadle Hulme layout: up until a few years ago it was effectively a single-track version of Cheadle Hulme (separate platforms for each single-track "branch") but is now a little more complicated on the Aberystwyth branch with the extended platform and "Penrhyn-style" passing loop.

Penistone used to have a second pair of platforms on the diverging route to Manchester.
