Purley Oaks and South Croydon. Both would not be easy to make accessible. Technically the v rarely used platform 1 at South Croydon does, but platform to train step is huge (Line is canted away from platform and on a curve.)

And on the Tattenham Corner line south of there -
  • Woodmansterne is completely inaccessible (footbridge only to island platform).
  • Chipstead on the down.
  • Reedham on the up.
And in case it hasn’t been covered, Norwood Junction is completely inaccessible apart from platform 1 (slow up).

Is platform 1 even used? I thought the trains opened their doors on the platform 2 side.

Many of these inaccessible stations are unstaffed. Are there any examples of unstaffed stations with lifts or would that be against the rules?

I imagine vandalism would be cited as a reason why they can't be installed. Just as toilets can't open when staff aren't at stations.

Guildford isn't officially accessible but if you can get help to deal with the ramps down and up, it's accessible.

Maybe when they rebuild the station it will get lifts. None were put in, in 1987 when it was last revamped. So it shows you how far we have come in terms of helping the disabled. Assuming the station revamp includes lifts.

It's P1 that's used, for Overground and Southern stoppers, and P2 where the doors aren't opened..

Almost. It's correct that P2 is an unused platform face on the same track as P1, in years gone by it was often used by people changing from a slow to fast line train, or just leaving the train; no doubt it was annoying for staff.

In the years after slam door there were still a handful of peak hour trains that were fast to London from P1 not P3. I spent many years knowing the (I think) 0848 which was a Caterham and Tattenham Corner joiner, due on P3, would quite likely be late and the 0851 from Sutton, timetabled for P3 too, would arrive on P1.

These days, as far as the passenger is concerned, there's no such thing as a fast London platform. Since the Thameslink revolution the platform depends on where the train came from, not where it's going. Fast London trains from the West Croydon line arrive on the slow line and cross over to fast.

No doubt this makes sense when it comes to timetabling, but it's awful to the passenger

Motspur Park to Chessington South and all 3 stations in between. All completely inaccessible to disabled people (though there is a project to bring in access at Chessington South)
