Of course, Battle is very pleasant indeed and not at all battle like. Although it does get more noisy when the thumper turns up !

Devil’s Bridge is a pleasant scenic location, even if you do spend most of your time dodging the other 100 or so people who came up on the same train!

Similarly "Kildale" is a lot more bucolic and less blood curdling than it sounds !

Well of course we're not going to leave the blood splatters on the station platform, are we? We make the area look nice and inviting and do the murdering later, out of view. Haven't you seen any horror movies?

I find them too scary - although I have seen all episodes of Midsomer Murders

Wargrave sounds bad, but looks nice enough to attract quite a few millionaires who need a London commute.

If we were to have a thread on stations or localities that are exactly as they sound then I'd suggest that Bogston, to the east of Greenock, would fit the bill very well.

Rannoch - Sounds like a rank part of Glasgow, but is a lovely station in Perthshire

Appledore (Kent) has recently had signs put up saying "Gateway to the Romney Marsh Villages" which I suppose is more tactfull than "in the middle of nowhere" or perhaps "an awful long walk to anywhere" .

A sad admission that there are no longer next stops of Brookland Halt, Lydd Town, Lydd on Sea Halt, Greatstone on Sea Halt and New Romney and Littlestone on Sea perhaps.

That aside, Appledore always sounds (and is) lovely :)

All but Brookland Halt do retain through ticketing in the form of Rye plusbus though.
Our village shop was recently held up for 4 cans of stella by a drunken Appledore teenager with a bb gun so its regarded as a den of criminality in the locality now.

Ooh, goodness, I bet the Kent Messenger was excited !

I don't really count Rye plus bus though - although it might come in handy now that I know it stretches to New Romney !

Ramsbottom doesn't sound too appealing but is a lovely place with steam trains and everything.
