Trivia - the "smallest" station with gated access?

Using whatever definition of smallest you like! No. trains calling, passengers or size.

Reason I'm asking as I get off at Hassocks (to go to the pub, obvs) and had to tap out with my phone at the gate, althought it's a long platform and has several trains calling l call it on the small side.

But there must be some really small stations where you can't access without tapping in a gate (or using a ticket) so, presumably it must be staffed even if only part of the day?

If this includes stations on the Glasgow Subway, then either West Street or Kinning Park would be prime candidates....

Cathays in Cardiff might get the prize for smallest gated station in physical size. That is of course only when the gates are in operation

Technically, Peartree station on the North Staffordshire line fulfills this. Whilst it's not a ticket gate, you do need to be buzz to get through a metal gate to get access to the platforms.

Is there a permanent member of staff there if there's an issue, say the buzzer fails? Must be an unusual "gate" anyway!

In terms of numbers of (National Rail) passengers using the station, I think it would be Greenford or South Ruislip managed by London Underground.

Based on last years passenger usage (for stations not on the Underground), I think it would be Edinburgh Gateway (0.225 million) and West Horndon (0.304 million). Though I'm not sure how often the gatelines are actually operational on some smaller stations on TOC's like c2c, the gatelines themselves have been installed (so in theory the stations are gated).

Thanks, seems a bit odd to me, wonder how many others are like that?
Peartree had a serious problem with anti-social behaviour. It only gets a couple of stops in each direction in the morning and the evening with nothing in between and was being used as an undisturbed drinking venue with attendant vandalism at other times (as far as I remember), so control can deny all access when there are no trains stopping, the equivalent of having the station locked up most of the time.

The difficulty of my OP is that some small stations might be gated and staffed for just the peak hours and the gates open otherwise!
Even so, if they are gated and staffed even at just peak hours it counts!

If small is two 5 carriage platforms then much of the Windrush and Mildmay lines of the London Overground. If small is passenger usage then exclude them as passenger numbers put some (eg Hackney Central and Homerton) into the top 150 GB stats.
