My ' birth loco' could be one of several released to traffic in July 1962:
Class 45 D53 Royal Tank Regt.
Class 46 D171-4
Class 40 D396-7
Class 52 D1006 Western Stalwart,
D1035 Western Yeoman
Class 07 D2990-1
Class 08 D4135-9/72-3/86-9
Class 27 D5393-6/8-402
Class 31 D5848-51
Class 37 D6745-7/68
Class 35 D7049-3
Class 83 E3305 (E3100)

Using my exact birthdate would narrow this down somewhat.
There is a common misunderstanding here.

The dates quoted for new locomotives, at least from the private sector builders, are not when they were "released to traffic". For example classes 27/31/37 shown here as new in July 1962 means that's when they arrived at Doncaster Works from the manufacturer. The locomotives were only "released to traffic" after successfully completing acceptance trials. This was a much more compressed version of what now is often called "mileage accumulation" where new trains have to run a specified mileage trouble free before being "released to traffic".

None built in my month of birth though that site doesn't count HST power cars as locos, some of which quite possibly could have been.

The site also gives withdrawal dates, closest there is an 03 withdrawn the day before I was born.

I'm happy in the knowledge that when I was born there were Deltics hammering past just a couple of hundred yards away.

The website isn't working for me, but if I share my 1960 birthday it's probably something like a Cl37, 45 or 82.
Got it to work now, and it turns out to be an 08, but there's a huge variety for my birth month

Diesel Class 40 1Co-Co15
Diesel Class Warship B-B2
Diesel Class 03 0-6-010
Diesel Class 04 0-6-03
Diesel Class 06 0-4-02
Diesel Class D2/10 0-4-03
Diesel Class 08 0-6-018
Diesel Class 24 Bo-Bo7
Diesel Class 30 A1A-A1A8
Diesel Class 21 Bo-Bo3
Diesel Class 22 B-B1
Diesel Class 33 Bo-Bo3
Diesel Class 15 Bo-Bo3
Electric Class AL1 Bo-Bo1
Electric Class AL4 Bo-Bo1
Electric Class AL2 Bo-Bo1
Electric Class Class 71 Bo-Bo1

Another planet...
There was one 56 completed the month I was born, that's as much as I'll say.

That website isn't mobile friendly though, so I've not bothered searching units. I'm not sure there were any classes under construction around the time of my birth (early 1982).

Without saying which one, A 56, which is what I thought it would be. 2 Days after me, just down the road at Doncaster Works
I might have seen you ‘in the womb’ so to speak with some cab frames being fabricated on an open day at Ashford Works!

First time poster, long time lurker here. No locos share my exact birthday but there was a Class 56 born a few days later (56126). Also a 58 (58007) born the same month. It appears that both had relatively short lives with 58007 lasting only 16 years and 2 months and 56126 lasting 17 years and 5 months. The 56 is showing as having been cut up on 10/1999 but withdrawn 05/2001. Surely that can't be right. I thought withdrawal comes first and then scrapping? Also does anyone know why both locos were withdrawn around what seems like mid life?

With a couple of days leeway I can lay claim to:
D6522 / 33014 now scrapped but I did see it at Bristol TM in 1981
D5131 (class 24) never made it to TOPS
D3902 / 08734 undergoing restoration on the Dean Forest Railway
At least one of my siblings is still existing!

My only exact twin is a Thompson L1 2-6-4T. While it was delivered to Eastfield (it mostly lived in England), I was delivered in Haymarket (the district not the shed).

I am happy to say that mine (well, one day off) is a 47. Well, was a 47. A big old Immingham/Thornaby whopper, as well.

Having thought a bit, I think the nearest build to my birth date was probably APT-E ( and likely for pretty much everyone else born around then ). I'm not sure when the thing's build date was, and given it was an experiment if it even really had a fixed build date.

Mine could be any of a Class 20, 25, 47, 73, 86, Scottish Class 311 and second batch of SR 4BIG EMUs
The first six would pin down your DOB as 1966....but I was under the impression that the second batch of 4-BIG EMUs (7049-7058 for the Portsmouth Direct Line) were delivered in 1970.

1 class 08, 2 class 24s and a class 40 (a namer!) for me. The next day, Swindon turned out a 9F, which illustrates how confused BR's traction policy was at the time. The steamer lasted for less than 8 years.

I think it's honest based on the poster's previous activity but I agree, best not to reveal something so specific as an exact DOB !

All I will say for me is: if there was one, it was not a steam locomotive.

June 56. Nothing for my birth date (it was a Sunday). But for June 56 there were 8 class 08's and 5 steam engines
But we did see D 2/1 11148 delivered on the 18th, a Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0 shunter
800px-Hudswell_D707_at_the_Rutland_Railway_05-09-25_31.jpeg

10 built. non survive
OT I admit, but these HCs were a very fine design, if based on an (at the time) out dated steam background. Saw many in the pits, often in lined green. I'm guessing this one in the pic is D707?

A mix of 20s, 25s, 47s & 73s for me. Good to see that 47712 (one of the 47s) is still going strong

Nothing on my actual DoB, but +/- four days gives three Standard 4 2-6-0s, four 08s, a 20 and a D2/10, which I’ve had to Google.

Unexciting but useful choice of a Standard Class 4 or an 08, on the day. Good to know about brdatabase - I hadn't realised that Hawksworth 94xx tanks designed for the GWR were still being built at the same time.
