I hope this is the right forum, but anyway:

Is it possible to obtain TRUST if you dont work on the railways?

Train RUnning System TOPS. I can tell you, it really isn't at all that exciting and to get your head around it will take a while, I can only remember the codes for functions I use regularly and I find its journey planning system a pain.

TOPS

It runs off the information provided by train describers in the signal boxes or manual reports where there are none.

I believe that the live departures board on the National Rail website is run off the TRUST system, but it does not specify the headcodes.

How do you obtain it if you do?
It'll be running on the computers wherever it is needed.

That's not what the ORR seem to think it stands for! http://www.rail-reg.gov.uk/server/show/conGlossary.52

It does, if you have access to the Call Centre LDBs you'll see the headcode and the intermediate locations/junctions presented in a form similar to what you get when you TRJC a headcode.

Correct, you can search/discover HC's, UID's and RSID's. Also display only a certain TOC at stations, view a train and all its passing points, and the actual reason its been cancelled, etc.

As opposed to the reason you get told

It is like many things only as accurate as what is put into it though. I once saw a freight train leave it's departure point, but the signaller didn't report it for over an hour, by which time it was a lot of miles away, and to confuse the matter, was over 2 hours late anyway.

It's easy enough to use when you get the hang of it although most people will only use (and therefore learn!) specific functions.

Even the automatic reporting can be wrong - had once the other week when the system said the train was here already but it wasn't.

The auto system can be fooled by manually stepping train numbers through it. But it guesses a lot as well, especially for train announcements.

Tell me about it! I tried looking today for Rugby - Southport for a week on Saturday. "No reasonable journey found" but Narborough - Southprt worked. Nuneaton didn't work either despite the train from Narborough passing through Nuneaton! All Rugby - Crewe & Birmingham trains running as normal but it don't like it. For the return journey, I looked for a 15.00 departure and got a 22.05 bus to Manchester and then travel home the next morning!

TRJC is always useful for checking the progress for the inbound working of your train home though;)

TRJE is fun for looking up detail on delays.

And TSID is a lot more useful/powerful than say internet train running information, bring up full list of reporting points, unit numbers if you're that way inclined etc.

If you know the headcode of the train, for example 4E33, type TRJC 4E33. That will bring up the schedule for that train, then type "V" which will then give you the consist with what ever loco/traction is used.

TSID is mainly used for line ups of specific locations, but highlighting the train required with a V will get you the same results as above.

The traction is listed on TSID as long as you are looking for units. Doesn't show locomotives.

Yes it does.

Yes it does.

Not if you don't have TOPs as well.
