I have a day return ticket from Hexham to Sunderland.

I know for the Newcastle to Sunderland part of the journey, the ticket is valid on the Metro as well as Northern rail services.

If I use the metro, can I stop the journey short at St Peters?

Or is that not allowed as St Peters is a metro only station?

I do not believe that stopping short is permitted. Interavailability only applies for travel between Newcastle, Heworth and Sunderland stations and not intermediately AFAIK.

That said, I have not seen any publicity which explicitly states so, nevertheless I don't travel often in Tyne & Wear so I might have missed it.

Perhaps it would be best to email/tweet Nexus to ask them?

Tickets are inter-available on that section (and I've always had North East Rovers accepted) however inter-availability usually only applies at stations which National Rail services call at.

If the answer is no, then the workaround is to get a Hexham to Newcastle ticket, and a metro ticket from Newcastle to Sunderland (which would, of course, equally be valid on Northern services as well).

So I would assume the official answer to be no until you can determine otherwise.

There is no Railcard discount on the Metro fare so a Railcard-holder can lose out by a fair bit that way.

I'd say it was valid, there're Hexham to Seaburn tickets available for same price as Hexham to Sunderland and I'm sure there's no prohibition on passengers alighting early.

There is a Hexham to Tyne and Wear Metro tickets available if you want to be sure and excess the fare for 30p more though

And early on a weekday morning, the Anytime Day Return from Hexham to Tyne & Wear Metro is actually 20p cheaper than the Anytime Day Return from Hexham to Sunderland
