Every now and then, both here and elsewhere, someone posts a timetable from Trust, giving a detailed listing of freight and or passenger workings for that particular location. However, unless you know what your looking at, it's just a load of codes...

So here I will attempt to explain it, using the following example taken from the line-up at Barnetby.

Code:
PASS 17:18 6H59 IMM NCBP1 16:55 MILFORDWS 19:18 WTT SX 121205 090606
17:25 17:26 1B82 MANINTAPT 14:57 CLEETHPES 17:55 WTT SX 270306 090606
The first two columns are the arrival and departure times for the location in question (in this case Barnetby). If the first column says PASS, then the service is not scheduled to stop at this location.

Next comes the four digit headcode - 6H59 (an EWS freight service) will pass straight through Barnetby, whilst 1B82 is scheduled to stop.

The next column is the origin of the service, together with the time it is scheduled to start it's journey - the lower example is a service that should have departed Manchester Airport at 14.57.

Then comes the train's destination, and arrival time, in the same format.

The next column indicates whether it is a timetabled service, a one off 'special', a temporary variation or whatever - WTT indicates that the service is a regular timetabled train, STP is used for specials, VAR for variations (i.e. diversions).

The next columns shows what days the train runs - MO is Monday only, SX is Saturdays Excepted (Mon-Fri), EWD is Every Week Day (Mon-Sat) etc.

The final two columns show what dates the timetable runs from - in the above example, 6H59 is scheduled to run Mon-Fri from 12/12/05 to 09/06/06

Easy isn't it?

Every reporting location (i.e. station, loop, junction etc) has a 9 digit 'STANME' code - Most of them are obvious with a bit of thought. Unfortunately some just appear to be random letters. BMWT&RSMD, for example is Bournemouth Traction & Rolling Stock Maintenance Depot...

If, after looking at it, you can't work out a location code, feel free to drop me a PM, or email [email protected] (Sorry I can't always answer right away)

Actually that doesn't show STANME (9 digit codes) - it shows TIPLOC (which are even shorter versions) and STANOX (5 digit numbers).

For reference, STANOXs are the codes shown next to the location names in the lists of timings which I post - see this example:

Code:
[B]52219[/B] [I]CHANLSEJN[/I] 14:35 14:44
[B]86901[/B] [I]BROCKNHST[/I] 18:00 18:10
[B]86921[/B] [I]BOURNEMTH[/I] 18:34 18:34
Bold - STANOX
Italic - STANME

Just received these from TM - can someone explain what the CAN pit means in the second to last timing?
Also, can someone please tell me which of those services are freight?

I assume CAN would be 'runs when required' but I ask TM to confirm.

-Class 0 is a light loco
-Class 1 is a express passenger or postal or a train going to clear the line (1Z99)
-Class 2 is a regular passenger or a train not going to clear the line (2Z99)
-Class 3 is a Parcles train or a ECS train forming a peak service (London area)
-Class 4 is a 75mph freight
-Class 5 is a ECS
-Class 6 is a 60mph freight
-Class 7 is a 45mph freight
-Class 8 is a 35mph freight
-Class 9 is a International train (Eurostar)

While it may show the freight, what you have to remember is that these are the Booked paths. It doesn't mean that there will be a train running in that slot, as it may have been cancelled, or may not be running yet.
