All I know is it’s the whole fleet being done, so not just LNER, I’ve seen GWR units there as well; and was expected to be an overall six year programme when announced in 2022. I did read somewhere that some individual trains were taking many months to do, it would be interesting to know what the intended cycle time is for 5 and 9 car units; and how man6 are in hand at the same time.

You’d have expected the early units to take a lot longer while procedures were worked up, but it’s all gone a bit quiet on how they’re doing against the expected throughput.

Hitachi are doing the work according to the original press releases about the project. I think like many previous long running contracts (such as Siemens doing the SWT Desiros), Arlington effectively just rent out the shed space.

Big name then , and that’s fair enough they’ve got the space there for them

As per a tour around Eastleigh works last weekend Hitachi have Bay 2 Notth and South with a goods inward bay. At the back end.
There was a GWR one inside and LNER outside.
Impression was that GWR One was near completion and LNER had been started but not taken inside yet.

It was rather hush hush and no photos (not even for own purposes) were aloud to be taken. The guides didn’t really have any info either to divulge only to say as per above Hitachi rent the workshop space and their own staff with their own kit do the works.

Arlington staff dont get involved from my understanding.

Correct, Bay 2 North and South are rented to Hitachi, Siemens has space in Bay 4. The Hitachi areas are rightly tight lipped and Hitachi and an outside company do their own work (Cant recall the name at the moment!). The only time Arlington will be involved is if they are required to do any shunting.

All covered under Hitachi's Project Acer.

So really they are like you said hush hush , not wanting people to know too much of what’s going on
