Driving on long car journeys can be adapted into a good example. Doesn't have to be anything fancy.

Oh really! That could work then, I wasn't too sure if it needed to be something a bit fancier! On the assessment day we had to write down our examples, I am right I thinking these can be changed can't they? I don't think the example I wrote down would be that relevant to them!

Have you had a journey where a emergency happened during it and you had to jump into action? That could tick a few boxes - concentration, dealing with an emergency, problems solving, dealing with other people etc etc. You can make it fancy. And yes you can change your examples. The ones you wrote down will be used at the MMI.

Oh yes I did realise that, I just wondered what type of example they wanted as I haven't done anything like driving a train!
The only jobs I have had are working in a pub for a few years and I currently work as a beauty therapist! :-/

You can work with this no worries. Forgive my ignorance but I'm sure whenever my missus gets a beauty treatment it can take a long, long time (or maybe that's just from my perspective ha) so surely you must have to stay concentrated for long periods when working on a customer? Also if I were you I'd also mention how vigilant you had to stay on shifts in the pub when you had to look out for underage/serve legals otherwise you'd fancy risk losing the license/breaking the law? Nothing exciting happen in the pub that you can use for an emergency situation?

Ha ha, that's brilliant! Yes they can take a long time! I have looked at the non-technical skills required & I feel I can cover most of them such as customer care, time management, following rules and regulations, concentrAtion! The one example I would have struggled with was working alone for long periods of time but as Andy previously said i could use driving as an example! I had originally put down applying eyelash extensions for the 'role similar to a train driver' because these take two hours & I have to keep concentration for that period of time doing a repetitive task, but too a high standard...whilst communicating with my client throughout! But I worry that they will think that is nothing compared to what driving a train is like etc & the role is not similar whatsoever! Yes that's a good point I will def try to include that! The pub work I will use for any questions to do with working in a team! I have my emergency situation covered, I had a client have an awful reaction to a chemical peel!

No I haven't really, I can cover all the other skills with different scenarios, it is just the working alone & a task similar to a train drivers role that I have struggled to think of something. I don't want to use examples where they think 'how can she think that is similar to a train drivers role!!'

Ah that's good then! The good thing about the MMI is you aren't competing against anybody - it's a pass or fail kinda deal. I had mine a few months ago and must admit I was terrified, I shared my Psychometrics day with 2 Police Officers and a Service Manager for British Gas (who had to deal with a gas explosion before) and as a Manager of a betting shop I was a little daunted that my answers might fail in significance compared to what they could talk about. But as long as you tell them what they want to hear and answer honestly you will be fine! I'd recommend using the STAR method too to ensure you don't waffle too much. Prepare well for it but try and relax on the day, good luck!

Yes that's exactly how I feel! I'm glad to talk to somebody who felt the same! I just hope with all the preparation I am putting in it will pay off!
Yes the star method will def be used, I have a tendency to waffle!
Thankyou so much for your help, I really appreciate it!

That's what matters, really! It's been a while since I did mine now, but as long as you can think of a job that somehow incorporates the non-technical skills, I'm sure you'll be fine. The question caught me completely off guard so I had to think quickly, and still managed to come up with something (although they clearly weren't convinced by my first answer so I had to think of another one - be prepared for that!). For this question, at least how they worded it for me, it doesn't have to be a job that you've actually done yourself!
