The scene at Hangzhou East Railway Station on Monday

Apparently it was declared a level 2 emergency and 2,600 guards were sent in to deal with the problem.

Hopefully it won't be like that when I travel from Beijing to Shanghai at the end of March!

Most certainly won't be. This was due to severe snow + storms + everybody wanting to go to the countryside to celebrate new year with family.

March should be back to normal again. Just know, stations often have queues to get into, and metal detectors etc. So you have to turn up a 'little' bit earlier than in the UK. ;)

"This is a platform alteration........" ;)

Watch out for that so called 'tomb sweeping' at the beginning of April though, referred to in another thread, when apparently it is busy too. Like you I hope not like that :|. Tickets on sale 60 days in advance, we've put our bookings in already just in case.

If this story is from China why have they used a picture of Waterloo during the evening Peak?

They missed a trick by not building a bigger mezzanine to disperse the crowds - they should give NR a bell

Hangzhoudong is a truly huge station anyway, it's the standard build. Spring festival is always like this, but it doesn't help with train failures thrown in.
