At 3:52 in this piece of 1980s stock footage there's a quite loud horn noise.

I was assuming it was a "this train is ready to depart' warning but (at least in this clip) the train doesn't leave for a little bit of time later.

Warning that it may be quite loud if you're using headphones!

Is that a young Adrian Shooter? There is a certain resemblance.

I don't ever remember the underground trains sounding anything before departing - and in any case, I'd expect a whistle rather than a horn.

Is it possible the sound has been dubbed in for some reason? Having said that... the noise does ring a bell, but I can't quite place it.

While on the subject of this clip... is that the actor Michael Brandon ( of Dempsey and Makepeace fame ) on the train?

I'm guessing it might have been added on afterwards to mark where to make a cut in the footage. Such a buzzer would have been quite distinctive on a waveform machine so it is possible that when someone was marking up footage to edit the buzz was put in to show to cut there later

At certain locations such as on the Victoria line at Walthamstow you can hear a very similar sound which is the Train Operator pressing the “Rear Cab Clear” plunger after having alighted the train but which another driver is taking out (known as stepping back).

No it has not been dubbed this is at Victoria and they had an audible warning to say that the doors were about to close I seem to remember that it could be worked by staff or work automatically. There was another location which escapes me.
