Knowing you and your opinion of Spoons outside of these forums as I do I just have to admit Spoons is just mediocre. It's cheap and cheerful, you pay your money, you know what quality to expect and it's just, well, adequate.
Oh yes, I agree. But they have it spot on & hence why it’s so popular.

As someone who generally drinks espresso, so coffee in its purest form, of the big chains I find Starbucks best, followed by Caffè Nero. Costa is revolting coffee to my tastebuds

However I generally prefer independent coffee shops. Ones in relative close proximity to train stations that I like:

Leeds - Laynes. Absolutely tremendous

Manchester - North Tea Power in the northern quarter

Sheffield - Howst

Glasgow Central and Edinburgh - Gordon Street Coffee

Thank you. At least it's not just me that has expressed these doubts about Wetherspoon coffee. It does taste reasonable, and if I need the extra caffeine in a hurry, it is then excellent value due to the free refills in particular.
