Of course with me actaully being a Londoner, I use the London bus network almost daily, all over the capital (mostly for leisure).

Indeed I am currently on a mission to bash every mainstream bus route end to end BOTH ways following its allocated booked route, so road closures or diversions which take the bus off its normal route do not count for this. This end to end journey has to be on the same bus throughout (if the bus gets turned short, that's it, try again).

The 389 is a doddle for this only takes 16 minutes for a round trip!

Let us know how it goes!

And then jump back on the same bus as it does the 29-minute round trip on route 399!

I have lost count of the number of bus routes in London I have used.
When in lived in Croydon I did not have a car so used public transport as it provided a frequent, cheap service. Here are some of the routes around Croydon at the time I was there although now the routes may have changed

12 Oxford Circus-South Croydon
54 Woolwich-Selsdon
64 Tooting-Addington
68 Chalk Farm-South Croydon
109 Westminster-Purley
130 Croydon-New Addington
154 Crystal Palace- Morden
157 Crystal Palace-Raynes Park
190 Thornton Heath-Coulsdon
197 Norwood Jn-Caterham
289 Beckenham Jn-Croydon Airport

Blimey that was some years ago, the 12 stopped going to South Croydon and the 54 to Selsdon back in the early 70's, all the routes you mention have changed and the 190 was withdrawn altogether and replaced by changes to other routes.

I've must have done almost all London bus routes although I've never kept records.

..........

I moved from Croydon in 1976...!!!!!
12A was still running to South Croydon.
54 Terminated in Croydon town centre and route to Selsdon was (I believe) replaced by 64.

I go back further and remember the Route no. 630 and 654 trolleybuses in Croydon...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes the 12A replaced the 12 in early 70's and it also replaced the 54 to Selsdon, the 64 still does go to Selsdon but by a different route. The 12A has itself since been replaced by the 312 and 412.

Trolleybuses are before my time I'm afraid, would love to have ridden on them though

Although i haven't been on them for a few years, love doing the Night Routes, hardly any traffic on the Roads & unless it's one of the 24 hour routes they go further than the day routes. Loved catching the N8 Victoria-Newbury Park section to Gants Hill then catch one of the first tubes of the day.

Also gives you the chance to see buses in different locations, buses from Barking garage in Central London on the N15 and South Croydon buses on the N133 for example

Another planet...
Well, it's been a while since I went on ANY buses in London, but these are the ones I can remember (mostly out West as I used to live in Kingston):

71, K1, K2, K4, 65, 131, 111, 411 (was once on a 411 that was an old MCW Metrobus that collided with a deer near Bushy Park- both the bus and the deer were 'write-offs' sadly!), 73, 465, 281.

73 from St. Pancras to Victoria (and return a few days later) being my most recent- almost 2 years ago!

One route I want to cover soon is the 379, which must be a contender for the shortest London bus route. It only runs between Chingford station and Yardley Lane estate, which is about 1/2 a mile away, if that.

Other routes that I've got my eyes set on covering soon include the W15, the 330, the 53, the D8, and the number 1. A mixed bag basically.

Just to add some accuracy to this. Route 12 was cut between South Croydon and Norwood Junction in June 1972 replaced by the 12A.

The 12A operated between Peckham and South Croydon using Leyland Nationals and extended to Purley - Old Lodge Lane (although cut between Peckham and Forest Hill between 1982-1986) until September 1990, when it was replaced by the 312 to the north and 412 to Purley.

Lately, the 312 was reduced to operating between South Croydon and Norwood Junction using single deckers with Route 197 taking over the northern section to Peckham.
