I used to work for a company where in most depots(warehouses) Hi Viz was compulsory but this didn't apply everywhere, it seemed to be down to which part of the country you were in, maybe H & S is applied on a local basis?True story about hi-vis jackets...
A few winters ago I went on a training course at Bournemouth Airport to learn how to drive and use de-icing trucks for aircraft. Being unfamiliar with reversing big trucks some of us wanted to get some more practice in during the evening so we asked the instructors if we could have some hi-vis jackets. "Nah", came the nonchalant reply, "this ain't a BAA airport, so there's no regs to say you need 'em".
Completely missing the point that we wanted them to avoid running over the banksman in the dark!

Many years ago when I did my safety induction at Toyota, we were told that fork-lift trucks had priority, and if you got run over, it'd all be your fault![]()

I hate the people who go into pubs wearing hi-vi. they must be on some sort of ego trip and believe that women will think they have a super important job.
Is it just me who thinks high vis is over used? Not just for 'safety' roles but theyre often used as some sort of item of uniform often at places like festivals and other temporary events.
