I emailed my local MP and was told next review date was 23rd July. I want to rearrange a birthday but been told a maximum of 8 and no music when will this change? I’m in Scotland so fear England may relax the rules first?

Because this is believed to be a very high spread vector (projecting one's voice also projects one's virus), I think "not this year" to be honest. I would suggest you should do something different this year and look to have the big celebration next year. If it had been my 40th this year (it was last year) I'd do that, and I've similarly heard of people having a low key wedding this year with family only so the knot is properly tied, but having a massive reception for their first anniversary next year - I think that's an excellent idea myself.

Sadly the answer is nobody knows, as live music, particularly singing, is a significant cause of spread and is right now deemed too dangerous to take place.

Once the “pleasure” of hospitality and tourism dies down, people will start becoming impatient for more restrictions to be eased. I believe the next “potential easing” is August 1st, although it’s quite possible that singing still won’t be permitted then.

I do agree England will almost certainly allow it first.

Sadly, for me and my friends in the music industry, this is deeply worrying and I can only hope that we are able to find at least some form of work soon.

Yes I heard Church singing is also banned. I did read they are going to announce what happens to theatres and music next week in England.

The Scottish Government has announced £10M "Lifeline" support for theatres and other venues - I would expect something similar to be announced for England
The summary points are below but it is very telling that the date mentioned is March 2021 -I think that's a strong indication that they are not expecting any kind of re-opening anytime soon and that support will be needed much longer than other sectors of the economy.

Quote:
The Performing Arts Venues Relief Fund is for regularly funded organisations and non-RFOs and aims to:
remove the threat of insolvency prior to the end of March 2021
allow for specialist / core staff to return from furlough or avoid redundancy to work on future sustainability plans
increase the opportunities for commissioning and employment of freelance artists and creative practitioners

One of my locals, the Alma in Bolton, is a very small musical venue (little stage and about room for 12 watching) but can't open as a pub as, I assume, it has a music licence. If that's the case it has to be re-licenced, and then re-licenced after CV! If I have that right I can't see why licencing can't be flexible right now, just open without music.

The Regulations specifically say that a venue licensed for music/dancing can open provided it doesn't actually have any music/dancing, so it sounds to me like that is already OK.

What about local licencing though? As I said, I'm not sure - all I know is they were due to open today but were "told" they can't. There's no info on their website!

It's quite possible that a local Council doesn't understand the law, it wouldn't be the first time.

Possibly it's too small for useful distancing?

On their FB page they say it’s the brewery who have told them no and it’s something to do with the live music aspect (???).
However their sister pub The York is open, and I would say they are roughly the same size, so it’s puzzling.

Though I'm not sure on what scientific evidence this is actually based. Lot's of noise seems to be made, but I've seen no hard studies, or even theoretical calculations of relative interfacial shear stresses generated in the throat for various activities.

Yes, sad news, the owners do own another pub up the road which may be the new venue, so fingers crossed. Much as I liked the Alma, and more it's liberal/bohemian attitude, it was always flipping cold inside unless packed!

They have said they are looking for a new venue, The York up the road has plenty of space for a band.
I used to go in there a lot in the 80s, but after the last refurb it wasn't the same.
