Came across this video from Preston on the WCML in late April 1992. On a couple of occasions you can see Class 150 sets - at least one even operating as a 3-car(!). Where were the 150s used at this point? Temporary replacement for the 108s to Barrow? AFAIK the Manchester - Preston services were all 156s at this time?

Yes, can Remember on Manchester to Barrow, Manchester to Heysham sea terminal and Manchester to Blackpool services, yes 156s was used, but some of these was 150s, but mainly if no 156 was available. Although some services would be booked 150, for traincrewe knowledge.

To Ormskirk, Barrow, Blackpool North, Blackpool South, Colne, Stockport, Manchester Victoria, Leeds... etc

A quick search of Flickr will reveal a wide range of routes and destinations in that period operated by 150s.

Add also some Liverpool services - but Class 142 Pacers also appeared on all too many services. Until 1995 there were also a few loco hauled diagrams on Blackpool - Manchester and Preston - Liverpool services, so not everything was a 150 or 156.

From what I remember the 156s seen at Preston were concentrated on Barrow/Blackpool/Liverpool-Manchester-Sheffield-East Anglia long distance services.
150s at Preston were used for more local stuff e.g. Barrow/Blackpool-Manchester
