What's the better torch?

The HP-11R2 or the No. 55/50001?

Ones £10 more than the other but i don't mind paying the extra if it works?

I haven't a clue what you're on about, so I'll just suggest getting a railway bardic lamp - solid as a rock (a large lump of cast aluminium), an extremely simple circuit, with long lasting batteries and bulbs that'll withstand being whacked off pretty much anything, including human skulls, apparently. Gives a bright light too, being a signalling lamp.

Difficult decision, 55/50001 more commonly known as a Bardic Lamp, is the older of the two, its a highly reliable lamp as AlexS says. It comes in two versions, the 3 aspect (R, G, and W) and the 4 aspect (R, G, Y, and White).

The Halo Plus 2 HP-11R2 is the modern eqivalent if the bardic lamp and is becomming the satandard issue lamp around the railways, I personaly prefer the HP-11R3RT which is the 4 Aspect version. The halo is again a very good lamp.

The decision between the 2 lamps depends on what you want it for, how much you'll use it and how much you're willing to pay. I picked up a 4 aspect Bardic for £20 and have found it useful for my work on the ELR, Several of my friends have Halos, Both the HP-11R2 and the HP-11R3RT, and find them just as good as Bardics and a lot lighter to carry (but usless for self defence and as a hammer!!), so the choice is yours. (or get both!)

The other option is - This
A snappy little torch, 3 colour with a belt holder, very useful if you need a lamp but for some reason havent got a bardic or halo with you!

Plus most Bardic have a Tail Lamp bracket on the back for those handy times.

Even these are being replaced by Dispatch Batons with the lights embedded into them, examples can be seen from FGW around the Bristol area (and possibly elsewhere.)

Tail lamp brackets are available for the Halo's the only problem is, on a realy bouny stretch, they tend to bounce off due to their lack of weight!

ooooo, iv never seen one of those, ill have to keep an eye out, iv only seen a german guards bat with a green lamp built in.

Cheers

Gonna go with the R2 i think. It's cheaper and lighter. :)
Where are you planning to get it from? I'v been trying to find a good one at not too steep a price, >£50 compared with bardics for £20

Check PMs as i have sent you one with all the official websites to get keys, lights to seats and hammers.

Not for those who don't need them 8-)

Why would a Bardic / Handlamp have a yellow on it, am i right in thinking you cannot give a caution from a handsignal, just a stop or proceed.

Yellows used by Fogsignalmen and Handsignalmen. Used for passing signal at danger or reduce speed or distant signal is knackered or relaying a signal due to naff weather

Where can you order/get the modern one (Halo plus 2)

If your the same Alistar J Parsons as i'm thinking then i suggest you look for an old style one on Ebay as they can be very expensive the new style. Or a normal torch? Just have to wave it violently to stop a train.
