Just a quick question to anybody who might know, but recently there has been a fairly large white square painted on the up platform at Chorleywood station. It has a thick black outline and it is painted in the sort of paint which suggests it is going to be there for quite a few years before it fades. Does anybody know it's purpose?

I presume it is some kind of marker for the new Met line trains, much like other markers painted on Underground platforms, but this is so much bigger and brighter it really stands out. It is also quite a way away from where any driving cab would be on the platform of the station other than the two or three car Class 165 Chiltern services which call there en route to Marylebone, so I cannot figure out its specific purpose. So, what is it for and is it duplicated anywhere else on the Underground?

The white squares indicate the optimal position where a member of staff performing Sats (dwell time management/platform duties) should stand. Standing there, you are in good view of the Opo cameras and are also able to see either the station starter signal or the repeater for the starter. You can find them all over the network. It isn't a new thing, but they seem to have appeared or been repainted at a lot more locations in recent months, even on platforms that have no rostered Sats turns.

They use them to align the cameras as well, hence their appearing at
stations without those duties.

A mild correction, yellow diamonds are used for camera corrections, white squares should be purely for platform duties.

How often are those lines, used to make sure all of the platform is viewable, checked? Do TOps check it every time every station, are they checked every morning, once a week, are they checked at all?
