Lately there have no class 455s to reading
...and? It seems unlikely the last one has run there but they don't have booked work to Reading.
The 455 services to Reading between 1996 and 2002 had to be 4-car as Earley and Winnersh had short platforms. They were only extended when the 458s were about to be introduced. For a while the 1837 from Waterloo to Reading was booked for an 8-car 455 formation and didn't stop at the stations between Wokingham and Reading.4 cars were very common
There appears to be a pair running to Reading this evening so you appear to have spoken too soon.Lately there have no class 455s to reading
There's been booked 455s to Reading much of the time over the last 2 years, but there hasn't been since December now.And haven’t for many, many years I don’t think? There were regular, even daily substitutions but they were AFAIK still 455s covering diagrams meant to be worked by other fleets..
Well I came back from Waterloo yesterday on a 455... (which as I reported ran non-stop to Staines, announced after we had got on). the 0842 Reading to Waterloo was a 455 for quite a long time a year or so ago and I have seen the occasional one at weekends.
see https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L53736/2021-05-20/detailed#allox_id=0 which is the one I was on returning.
Yes, they are used.
