Digressing slightly, but goodness knows why Arriva decided to put on a two-coacher yesterday morning to Manchester Piccadilly (not sure where it started, but it was almost full by Hereford where I boarded at 10:43), given the Swansea v Man Utd fixture combined with Fergie's retirement event. There are a large contingent of Man Utd fans in South Wales, plus the Swansea fans. The train was heaving by the time I thankfully got off at Crewe, and there must have been another 100 or so waiting to get on it there.
This wasn't the last service that would have reached MAN prior to the 4.00pm kick-off, so presumably they saved a longer train for the later service? I'd love to know how the return trip post-match went, i.e. whether extra services were provided.
