Hi Chaps

The disused platform 1 at Queenstown Road station still has a wooden-planked surface for its entire length. I think Battersea Park does too, but can anyone think of any other surviving wooden platforms - (for their full length, not just over a bridge) - in the London area only? Obviously there are plenty left outwith the metropolis.

There are proposals to reopen platform 1 at QTR when the Windsor line trains get extended to 10 carriages, and I was wondering how significant it was, before it gets swept away.

Thanks!

I might be wrong, but I have a feeling that the two platforms at Queen Park on the Slow lines (not the Overground/Underground lines) have wooden platforms? I'm not sure if they are used anymore either, but I'm pretty sure they are wooden. :)

Berrylands further out on the SWML has full wood everywhere, platforms, supports, building! Still technically in London, swallowed up from Surrey in the 70s, like Croydon etc. I think all on the northern lines out of London, WCML etc are concrete, some of the NLL/GOB may still be wood - see anthing opened since the 70s for examples.

Out of interest, do you know when platform 1 became disused?

Latimer Road on the Circle and Hammersmith line has (or at least had) a wooden platform before the recent work started there.

No the Queens Park slow line platforms are brick built.

The four middle local and DC platforms at Euston, are sometimes still called the wood. As they were of wooden construction until the station was rebuilt in the 1960's.

IIRC, platform 1 at Battersea Park is still in use for South London Line services (wasn't sure if you were implying it was disused or not). The underpass and stairs are all wooden too - it makes quite a racket when it's busy!

Does Berrylands count? It's in zone 6 just before Surbiton and I'm pretty sure the platforms are both wooden.

Platform 1 at Queenstown Road Battersea is disused though, I believe it was taken out of use when Waterloo International opened, so some time around 1994. It still has BR Southern Region style public address speakers fitted.

NB: The CRS code for Queenstown Road Battersea is QRB, not QTR.

Enfield Chase has wooden platforms although they have been refurbished with a harder surface coating, you can tell the difference between the platforms there and everywhere else on the GN!
