I have already ascertained that repeat letters are allowed (my only loss in my early days of playing was ABBEY); does anyone know whether, say, PLAYS would be a valid word, either as a plural or the third person singular?

I'm pretty new to this - five goes, all of which I've somehow got - but repeat letters is new to me. How does the colour coding work with them?

It would be allowed.

Sorry, my use of allowed is ambiguous.
Would PLAYS be a possible solution?

Green is correct letter in the correct place; yellow is correct letter but not in its place.

Exactly - so if there were two of a letter in the word, and my guess had one in the right place, I’d just get one green? So no acknowledgement that I’ve also guessed the correct letter but got it in the wrong place?

Plurals are allowed, yes. My default starter word is sometimes DUCKS.
But is it a possible solution? In my limited experience, I'd say no.

Yes that's what you'd get.

Somebody is having a bit of a joke today. After I got the first three on line three I thought, “It can’t be,” but I tried it and it was.

There's another version of Wordle called "Lewdle", which is very similar to Wordle, but the main difference is all the answers are "lewd", while another rule is you can only guess with lewd words.

Be aware that it's also American spellings. A week or so ago the answer was FAVOR.

Mine today. Fairly pleased given I've only been doing this a couple of days.

Code:
[x][W][x][W][x]
[x][C][C][C][x]
[C][C][C][C][C]

where x = not in word, W=wrong position, C=correct position

The source code has been "cracked" and you can see a list of each word per day :(

It wasn't even hard to find !

I'm sure it wasn't hard to find considering the reason the game was built in the first place! You'd have to be a real saddo to cheat though.

It would be a bit like cheating at Patience.

Apparently someone was spamming the daily words all over twitter. Thus spoiling it for others. It popped up in my news feed this evening.

Tomorrows word is :
You looked, Cheater <D

I lost yesterday, for the first time ever. Guesses 4, 5, and 6 were all correct except for the first letter <D

In other news, it was broadcast yesterday that the game has been bought by New York Times.

Popular online game Wordle has been bought from its creator by The New York Times Company, and the paper has hinted it may not be free to play in future.

Software engineer Josh Wardle has said he decided to sell the virtual puzzle after it snowballed and became “overwhelming” to run, and the NYT has said it will “initially remain free”.

Well, they paid ‘an undisclosed seven-figure sum’ according to the Grauniad, so they will want to get their investment back. I must say that I have already started to get bored with it, although I never saw it as more than a mild amusement when I had a few minutes spare.

I wonder if it'll go the way of 2048 and Pokemon Go, very popular in their early days but not much heard about them now.

Still got my 15 day streak!

I can see it being free for a while but the NYT want to "increase subscriptions" so interesting to see how they intend on keeping that. I wouldn't be that opposed to a mandatory advert after each round to keep it free. Honestly I think if it stops being free people will just not bother.
