There's an anytime ticket that's called off-peak:

Could people give other examples of tickets that are not what they are officially called?
There are many of these kinds of tickets (Off-Peak tickets with an 8A restriction code). Another notable example is Anytime tickets that aren't actually usable at any time due to, for example, being Railcard discounted below a certain minimum fare.

It's not incorrectly named, although I acknowledge that it is a little confusing.

An Anytime Return allows 5 days for the outward leg, with one month for the return.
An Off Peak Return allows 1 day for the outward leg, with a month for the return.

The important principle to remember is that there is no such thing as an Off Peak train, each off peak ticket has its own restrictions denoted by a code. Some have similar restrictions but many also allow travel at any time after the morning rush hour (i.e. no evening restrictions), or even at any time, as the example you have given does.

Be careful what you wish for if things are reformed. The train company would not rename the ticket as 'Anytime'. They'd introduce more restrictions to the Off Peak ticket and introduce a new Anytime fare at a far higher price. There are examples all over the country of train operators doing this over the last few years.
