Set XC03 is on the 0830 Edinburgh - London service today, if you want to see it in kings cross.

East coast passengers are enjoying overcrowding, no catering and all the other joys of XC. ;)

Blimey, even when XC aren't even running the train, it's still their fault!

If they do 'enjoy' the overcrowding, no catering and 'all the other joys' of XC they won't have considered the less attractive alternative.

Don't EC have a spare TRFB at Craigentinny depot? Would have thought they might have been able to slip that into the XC formation? Or was it not available?

I have added the smiley on the comment, in case it was interpreted as a flame.

I am surprised myself however east coast cant offer hot drinks, don't east coasts own trolleys have urns?

I thought there's still some form of (unused) kitchen in the XC sets just before 1st class. Has it been stripped?

It exists but it's very very basic (especially compared to the full kitchen that East Coast services normally have) to provide their first class catering (it's not unused) and as a base for their trolley service. I'd have thought East Coast have managed to keep a trolley going using that but presumably not.

They didn't, not even for the first class passengers. Their best offer was to get off at Newcastle and get the 1025. On-time to me is more important than a hot drink and I am a seasoned east coast traveller to know to always have a picnic just in case (as we know lack of catering doesn't only apply to hired in trains on east coast - they do it often enough on their own)

Back to the train, I wonder when it will head north? My guess is the 1500, I doubt it will stay on the diagram and do the 1400. 9 coaches of people into 7 doesn't go.

So it WAS a XC set I saw briefly passing New England North Junction heading south, wasn't sure if I was imaging it or not :|

I think that is just co-incidence, this should have overnighted at Edinburgh, it either didn't make it up last night or failed this morning.

It did overnight at Edinburgh, after working a York - Plymouth then a Plymouth - Scotland yesterday. (The XC set)

That is true...

Aren't XC HST seating arrangements higher density than EC though?

Slightly but not enough to make a difference when you're trying to squeeze nine into seven (it's less than ten seats per TSO by my reckoning).

It was 1st suffering this morning with the overcrowding, with many needing to go to standard for a seat. Couple this with no catering, they were very unhappy bunnies wishing east coast had stepped up a Daigram.

An EC power car made a bid for freedom at NL I think.

So a PC hitting the deck at Neville Hill (Leeds) means Craigentinny (Edindurgh) are short of trains?

Every train due off Neville Hill ran so how can that have an impact up in Edinburgh?

Give us a clue because I cant work it out!

Don't think the powercar derailing at Nev has anything to do with it, as the rest of that set is still in service.

If the HST wasn't available...
...would XC substitute a Voyager?

Guessing not as possible clearance and stock training issues (assuming an HST is an HST and the normal EC driver is on the train) but would be a bit of a difference ;)

I was surprised to see this be advertised at York today, especially the specifics of it being a XC set! :P

(sorry about the poor quality!)

Specially for the bashers wanting some pretty much guaranteed red pen action on a 'foreign' HST ;)

You have hit the nail on the head, it can't be a voyager as east coast crew still run the set. Ignoring clearance, you would need XC crew to sign the train.

Reported to be hired in due to set shortages, but not connected to the derailment of 43318...

Does anyone know if the XC set is out again today? I understand it was on the same services yesterday. 830 Edinburgh - kings cross and 1500 kings cross - Edinburgh.

Anyone know as to when it may go back to XC? Don't XC have all their HSTs out on Saturdays to allow for Voyager maintenance?

Would love to have a ride as I find XC HSTs seating a lot nicer than East Coasts in Standard.
