Indeed, they're brilliant little cookies. I will be using mine, just for a collection though.

I'm proud to have a RISC CPU - swearing by my IBM 1.6 GHz PowerPC G5 ;). None of this Intel CISC sh!t :p

Only because most people are used to Windows and expect Mac to work the same way.
This seems to the problem. People have to unlearn windows and think more logically.

It's the same with my iPhone. People look for a scroll bar instead of just pushing it around like they would paper...

Its always good to restart your Computer/Laptop with any OS.
Only if you're running programs still coded in languages without any automatic garbage collection. ;) The open source community is equally bad.

one of the things I don't like about Mac is the fact it doesn't have anything like a start menu

Instead you can just click a single button on the dock and have the program load? Or what about the apple menu and then recent items.

Hail again! <D
Going on about laptops the other day, I completely forgot to post my main PC specs here. They aren't much to write home about though as I don't really do much "high-end" stuff...So I'm just as fine using a 33MHz Pentium-1 box as I am with some über-overclocked 8GHz monster!:D

Mind ye, I tend to have a thing about redundancy and therefore run my setups in small clusters. Here's the one that forms the core of my home network at the moment:
  • Aragorn - Main work/play box, network control, remote admin system:
    • CPU: AMD Athlon64 2.4GHz single core,
    • RAM: 512Mb single slice DDR-2,
    • HDD: 160Gb Seagate S-ATA drive...Cheap design,
    • OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 - UK version.
    .
  • Gimli - Backup system I, automated processes, data storage:
    • CPU: AMD Athlon 800MHz single core,
    • RAM: 384Mb PC-100 SDRAM (3x 128Mb slices),
    • HDA: 6Gb 1st gen Maxtor IDE,
HDB: 60Gb Western Digital IDE (Oh no!) that grinds worse than a Networker!
    • OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP1 - UK version with Cymraeg language pack installed.
    .
  • Legolas - Backup system II, Folding@Home processing, Warcraft multiboxing, legacy media support:
    • CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1.4GHz single core,
    • RAM: 512Mb in 2x 256Mb DDR slices,
    • HDA: 8Gb Seagate IDE generic drive,
HDB: 45Gb Maxtor high-capacity 2nd/3rd gen IDE drive,
    • OS: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP1 - German version.
    .
  • Other machines currently in development:
    • Saruman: Dedicated network system allowing location of USB printer, scanner and external HDDs in a much more convenient location,
    • Boromir/Faramir: Identical, paired PCs intended for web development and hosting use, plus experiments in writing distributed computing applications in VBScript etc,
    • Merry: 80386 laptop running WinNT Workstation 4.0. Intended for on-road web development work and word processing,
    • Sam: Similar to Merry, but on a more dilapidated laptop for use in areas like festivals where potential for loss or damage is high.
Believe it or not though...With the exception of Aragorn (Who cost about £315,- from PC World last year), all of my boxes have been built up from parts obtained either at the local council tip, or through dumpster diving etc.
I've literally got enough to build one hell of a Folding Farm here - And that's something I might do as a later project - But the irony of it all is that the whole lot has cost me less than a tenner in scrap metal value to obtain, and yet I'm building up large personal processing networks with the things!:D8)

Hmmm...I'm obviously a fan of Lord of the Rings, aren't I?...<D

Please keep this thread to the discussion of computer specs.

I bought a new laptop from John Lewis yesterday.

Intel Pentium Dual Core T2370 1.86GHz
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
2GB RAM
120GB Hard Drive
2.5kg weight

It's also got a built in webcam with face recognition in lieu of your Windows password, but I think it's a bit of a gimmick.

Dear Gods! Buying something like that at a shop like that must've set ye back a fair old bit!

Nice spec there...May I ask though how - In this day and age of über minaturised technology - The weight of thy laptop comes in at 2,500g? :)
(Personally...I prefer the older, heavier laptops. Used to have a much loved 12.25Kg 8086 beast knocking about until it met an untimely end at Heathrow's security line...)
It's also got a built in webcam with face recognition in lieu of your Windows password, but I think it's a bit of a gimmick.
To interface properly with Windows, such a device could only be software based IMO...And if the software were to suffer an accidental reconfiguration or failure, then it could be a right bugger to get thy entire laptop working again - Or so I believe.

Personally, I choose to use complicated passwords insted of thumb/face scanners as they'll work on all common types of systems...But for those who want such security systems on their PCs, I recommend using a USB fingerprint dongle. :)

Farewell... <D
