Obviously only a guess but most likely the managers one. It's a bit cold at this stage to receive something like that isn't it. Hopefully you have a full assessment pass now though that will last 3 years!

Mines changed to unsuccessful-thought it would after the structured interview. I will ask for feedback to see where I went wrong.

I received a phone call yesterday to say I've been successful, and my status on the first website has been updated.

I'm so chuffed to have been given this opportunity and I'd like to thank everyone for their input on this thread (it made the waiting around for emails a lot easier when you know everyone else is still waiting too!), its invaluable. Although nothing can prepare you for the panic of the DTG and the interrogating CBI, the advice on here definitely helped me through the whole process :)

Well done mate, can I ask where you will be based? If stick a few more posts up I can PM you to save clogging the thread up ;)

Can I also add commiserations to the guys who have been unsuccessful this time, met some really top people during the assessments and wish them all the best in future applications.

I chose to relocate to Manchester and I currently work in IT. I had a lot of strong examples ready for the CBI so I think that really helped me for that part, so if you decide to try again I'd look at ways you can get experience at the type of things they are looking for...

Hi guys,

Again congratulations and commiserations to all of us in the final 40 that did/didn't get a job.

Is there anyone on here who still hasn't heard if their interview was successful?

Did anyone on here get a job in newcastle?

The 2 internal guards applicants got them, and rightly so :D

I had a phone call this afternoon, and I am over the moon that subject to medical and references I will be on the course starting on the 24th June. It was a tough process and I was resigned to the fact I had not got through. Well done to those who have also got through, I will see you all on the 24th, those that didn't I know how you feel having been rejected before, just keep trying as good things come to those who wait.

This is my first post but I have been reading for a few weeks . I've been through all the stages of the recruitment process, from fault finding to driver manager interview, as this was my first attempt to try and get a trainee driver position.
I too have received an email today saying I was successful at assessment/interview but application is on hold, Kind of leaves a bitter sweet taste. Congrats to the people who have made it to the final 10, definitely deserved.
Did you receive a call merrydown? I was expecting to get one today to explain the situation, I'm guessing I'm in what they would call a talent pool. Seeing as there were 40 at satge 3 (interviews), was wondering how many people are on hold as we are. i know that 45 or so people passes stage 2 (trp stage) and Are on hold. Just hoping that there will now be a new position available in the near future.
Has anyone had experience of a talent pool, just looking for a bit of hope after the disappointment of the email. Once again congrats to the sucessful candidates.

Congratulations to you both, well deserved after a tough process.

I myself have not heard anything so I have probably not made it through.

Best of luck with everything.

They did say there was almost certainly 10 more positions starting in September so I think you'll have a good chance of getting one of those.

Not necessarily. They have advertised for qualified drivers for York Newcastle and Manchester so I think the second school will depend on the applicants for the qualified positions

Qualifieds won't have anything to do with the trainee courses. They will be on a bespoke course with route learning and traction only I'd imagine.

Chris - I think what B & E means is that the number of trainees required for the next course will depend on how many qualified guys they manage to get between now and then.

I see. Who knows then. I can't see the smaller depots needing anymore trainees for a while after this intake. It's been 3 years since Newcastle last recruited 1 trainee. :(

You are very close to the mark there. A full rules course is not normally required and the traction course can be cut right down as a conversion course. Route learning time remains the same as the trainees but even then qualifieds pick up a new route far faster for some reason !

Because Route Learning is part of the competence of a train driver!!

Of course they pick it up faster, they know what they are looking for!

Congratulations to those of you that have been offered jobs. To those on hold, the law of the jungle says someone will get a positive phone call very soon. Some always fail the medical.....

Few days traction training, rules covered in the sim, hours with a DI,and route knowledge next to no time, driver may already sign the road so not long at all:D

I was told that there was a possibility of more positions in September but nothing was confirmed

It is December and some of the internal applicants who applied for the June position have already been told that they will be on the Dec course so there won't be 10 positions.

Ref: online status, mine still says 'awaiting references' and I was offered the job 7 months ago so anyone whos status has not been updated need not worry too much about it.

Good luck all.

Trainees will have nothing to do with the qualified drivers the training for trainees is starting from scratch and qualified driver training is pretty much just route learning and traction training.
