I bet SWT are punching themselves in the face because of the destination screen
that is an almighty <woops> up and will lead to problems, just admit they fu got it wrong and stick it in the non driving side.
Not going to happen is it?

Not going to happen. CIS upgrade a la Desiros is costed, additional screens in passengers windows to compensate. I'd say that's more likely, but I honestly don't know if it will happen. Passengers don't pay attention to front end screens anyway, they're too small and difficult to make out. Saloon side screens and (working!) platform screens do the job adequately.
Oh wow that's hideous!

At least they've put the proper ( ie full ) number on it...

But it looks awful. Almost as if if was photoshopped on
I'd like to see the SWT 455s get the leading two digits added - Southern did it ages ago.
456, 465 and 466 units have always carried the full 6 digit number from introduction way back at the start of the 1990s, so the 'tradition' has been changing for a while.I'd rather the 450s and 444s lost the leading 2 digits. It's a piece of railway tradition for 3rd rail EMUs in the ex SR area to have 4 digit numbers on the trains themselves.

But hardly unexpected, given the pics earlier in this thread?
Just a pedantic side note...
The article is incorrect in that they were originally geared for 125mph. I believe it was 100mph.
You are right, because as far as I know, 3rd rail speed limit = 100mph max. It would be pointless if it was a 120mph train, because it would be IMPOSSIBLE!

Geared for 125mph, not rated for it. This has been done to death. Top speed was only 100mph... This was done for 'reasons of comfort' and because acceleration wasn't judged to be so important on GX.
Doesn't matter now anyway as 458/5 is geared and rated for 75mph.
The 458/0 has a sign in the cab saying the maximum speed is 90mph anyway so all the talk of 100 or 125 is irrelevant.
Where are the sources for the facts that 458/0s are geared for 125 and the 458/5s have been re-geared for 75, just curious like.
