Steve Bruce has done well everywhere he's been.
I must stop you there....
He was pretty much disastrous at Huddersfield, having been brought in by a rich chairman who felt that a 'big name' manager was needed he had more backing than any previous boss. He was also given a place on the board of directors, which perhaps explains a possible conflict-of-interest in his transfer decisions. He spent big money on wages on the likes of Blackburn & Greece reject George Donis (who played one game before heading back to Greece to complete his national service (whilst still on the payroll) and never to return), and Scott Sellars. Come deadline day in March (as it was then) and with Town sitting in a play-off place thanks largely to the brilliant Marcus Stewart.
Needless to say, Stewart was sold to Ipswich (at the time a few places/points behind) and only 10 days later scored twice in his new club's 3-1 victory over us. We finished 8th, with Ipswich gaining promotion through the play-offs and having a successful following season in the Premiership largely on the back of Stewart finally being given the chance on the big stage. We had a season of mid-table mediocrity before the rich chairman jumped ship having sacked Bruce with a big pay-off and the club went into a downward spiral that we've only just about recovered from!
EDIT: Saw the praise for Bruce and saw red! Didn't think to read on and see than my namesake and fellow HD-resident had beaten me to it!

it actually leaves me cold that we employed that man.
we are stuck with all his mates now. Kenny, Browny and Tongey as he used to call them
He did alright for us. Different times then, though I suppose, and a lower-league. Much like Simon Grayson he might still be able to do a job at that level.
