That's 2-0 to Everton on 25 mins with Ross Barkley scoring a superb goal.

This is a player that Leeds took on loan last season. We all thought he looked really good butt after a couple of games Warnock openly said he wasn good enough, promoted Michael Brown back to the team and sent Barkley back to Everton.

what a dinosaur that man was.

it actually leaves me cold that we employed that man.

Lukaku just had another disallowed goal, offside this time

Why didn't Chelsea keep him for themselves?

well what a goal. 3-1. Cabaye

well fair play to Newcastle for coming out and making a go of it. Everton deserved it though, first half was superb. 3-2 probably doesn't do it justice. I wouldn't say it wad total doom and gloom for Newcastle though

I said I wanted to see goals. Monday night football always tends to be good.

No Idea what we were doing in the first half but the second half was much better. Still a crap result for us but Pardew just doesnt have any clue about how to field our best playersa and make them play to their own abilities

Steve Bruce has done well everywhere he's been.
I must stop you there....

He was pretty much disastrous at Huddersfield, having been brought in by a rich chairman who felt that a 'big name' manager was needed he had more backing than any previous boss. He was also given a place on the board of directors, which perhaps explains a possible conflict-of-interest in his transfer decisions. He spent big money on wages on the likes of Blackburn & Greece reject George Donis (who played one game before heading back to Greece to complete his national service (whilst still on the payroll) and never to return), and Scott Sellars. Come deadline day in March (as it was then) and with Town sitting in a play-off place thanks largely to the brilliant Marcus Stewart.
Needless to say, Stewart was sold to Ipswich (at the time a few places/points behind) and only 10 days later scored twice in his new club's 3-1 victory over us. We finished 8th, with Ipswich gaining promotion through the play-offs and having a successful following season in the Premiership largely on the back of Stewart finally being given the chance on the big stage. We had a season of mid-table mediocrity before the rich chairman jumped ship having sacked Bruce with a big pay-off and the club went into a downward spiral that we've only just about recovered from!

EDIT: Saw the praise for Bruce and saw red! Didn't think to read on and see than my namesake and fellow HD-resident had beaten me to it!

He did alright for us. Different times then, though I suppose, and a lower-league. Much like Simon Grayson he might still be able to do a job at that level.

I must admit as per my previous post had you read on that I was commenting on my memories of him. I don't have memory of him prior to Birmingham.

Not sure I've been in this thread this season :-?
Just go back from The Old Spotted Dog, where Clapton FC celebrated 125 years of residency by thumping Ilford 4-0 in the Essex Senior League, even missing a penalty along the way.
Excellent game, with The Tons not really troubled and their 'keeper really only being called into action twice.
It's been hard for Clapton for a while now, and the future is still not bright, but they're doing everything they can on the pitch.

One good performance doesn't make him international standard. He's good and deserves at least a friendly to see if he can make it.

He's made numerous good performances. Joe Hart has made numerous errors in recent times, mainly as he sees himself as having no competition.

Agreed, but consistently performing in Champions League games over the course of the last year does. In the bread and butter league games he's barely made a mistake, certainly no howlers I can think of.

As long as he plays for Celtic and in Scotland he won't get a competitive game for England.

Chris Woods had the same problem, though he had Shilton ahead of him in the pecking order. To be honest there's plenty of English keepers putting in performances that deserve at least call-ups to the national team. Ruddy at Norwich seems to have got over his injuries, and even our own Alex Smithies has been in outstanding form for the past 15 months. He played (only once I think) for the U-21s, and it wouldn't be the first time a 'keeper from outside the top-flight had been called up... Indeed didn't a Peterborough 'keeper almost go to South Africa?

Chris Woods earned most of hus England caps while at Rangers.

Agree fully on Forster - a cracking goalkeeper and potentially one of the best English 'keepers since Seaman. Joe Hart is colossally overrated, though he enjoys to an extent the same luxury that Valdes does at Barca - get a decent back four in front of you and often people won't notice who incredibly average the goalkeeper is.

Whilst the matter of goalkeepers playing in one country and representing another "Home Nation" country at international level is being discussed, I am always surprised that Bob Wilson was only ever chosen to play for Scotland on two occasions, yet he was the senior goalkeeper for Arsenal for many years.

Would there have been any "hidden agenda" in that decision ?

No, just Gordon Banks , Peter Shilton and Ray Clemence :p

I will bow to your greater knowledge of Scottish international football from your power base of Falkirk, but as far as I remember, Bob Wilson was not ever challenged by any of the three goalkeepers for the position of goalkeeper for Scotland you name in his short reign as the goalkeeper of Scotland...

....or does my memory serve me false ?

Wilson was born in Chesterfield, and the rule that allowed you to play for your parents' nationality was only created in 1970, 3 years before Wilson retired. Like Butts says, a certain Mr. Banks would have kept him out of the England set up, but IIRC he wasn't favoured for Scotland either, they had a long standing keeper and Wilson couldn't topple him.
