8k means nothing compared to your terms and conditions. Far superior conditions at intermodal, at HH you have none. At heavy haul you work for your money, intermodal is more step on step off, a lot of booked work so you know what you are doing, HH you don't know what your doing from one week to the next with several depots having a white roster showing only your rest days and a Friday tea time when you find out what you are doing the week after, so planning anything with mrs and kids is out if the window.

Yeah the interview is in stourton. Not sure what to expect at the interview!?! I'm guessing it's just to see whether or not I'm worth sending for assessments ? :/

Looks like heavy haul have done away with the defined final salary pension scheme then for new starters. Doesnt surprise me. It ain't good as the final salary is a cracking pension for a driver that can't be matched really.

Wrong, New starters ARE on the defined final salary pension,

How are the current group of trainee's getting on? How many weeks left in the classroom? Where were you guys during the second week, were you at your respective depots?

I have a few more questions if any current FLHH employees could shed some light on for me.

The contract states a 35hr working week, is this over 4 or 5 days or can this vary week to week?

In regards to any overtime down the line how is this booked/regulated?

Does anyone know much of the Toton depot? It's not actually listed on the website, is it based alongside DB Schenker at Toton TMD?

Looking forward to meeting the fellow new starters on the 3rd, not long now!!

I've got the same questions NinjaJihad!

Sure we'll find out soon enough!

Out of curiosity, how many ate driving up and how many are coming by train?

I was looking at coming by train, but know it's a decent step from the hotel to FLHH depot at Crewe if it's over by where we had the Crewe assessments!

Cheers, Si

35 hrs is what your contract is based on. But that doesn't mean you will work that, you could be rostered 60 hrs one week, 45 next and so on. Regarding overtime, well that's just one big gamble as there is no RDW agreement in place, so in other words you take the risk of making yourself available but come the end of your contract they could book you off, or give you shorter jobs to claw the hours back, this does happen now to drivers which ain't nice.

@Si. I'll be driving up, I'm sure there will be no shortage of offers for a lift to and from the holiday Inn. It's only a 1 mile drive/20min walk from Hotel to Basford Hall according to Google maps.

@Jambo. Reading up I was aware that we would be working from annualised hours but nothing in the contract says this, only 35 hours a week (obviously with the proviso that we will have to work longer as deemed necessary). Perhaps the contract changes once we are fully passed out as drivers?

Do you know what the annual hours are?

Do you mean 35 hrs a week as a trainee or basically as a qualified driver? The annualised hours is around 1820 a year.

I imagine its the same as GBRf where the contract is for a 35 hour week but it is averaged over a certain number of weeks....think ours is averaged over a 16 week period. So like JAMBO said, some weeks you will work a lot less than 35 hours and other weeks you will work a lot more.

Be under no illusion though, if its HH your going to, be prepared for some hard graft.

Edit: Oh, and annualised hours where rest day worked is lumped into the same pot as rostered hours suck big time!

It's 1820 hrs per year, you're weekly hours can be anything up to 60 hrs, although when you're training it will be 35.

Another thing, as new starters you'll be on a 13 week contract, that means you do 455 hrs then you're on overtime, although this is payed at basic rate.
On another note, you're training will be vastly inferior to other TOC/FOC, you receive 9 weeks classroom training, where as the likes of Northern Rail, get 16 weeks in the classroom.
My advise is to do as much homework in the evenings as you can as there is a lot more than meets the eye to take on board in that short period of time.

Yeah don't think the training is up to much, not on par with the likes of ews anyway, bit concerning that some aspects of driving are not even covered, spoke to one trainee and he didnt even have a clue what a Toton signal was, and hasn't even covered semaphore! They don't have to get any T3's in either, ews you had to get several in to get passed out. So it could be a case of get in the seat and crack on! :|

Jambo, I've had to listen to you spouting some rubbish on here about FLHH, but how dare you write this about the training.

100% of what you've written here is absolute rubbish.

I fully expect a smart response from you, but please, let's deal in facts.

Concurred, maybe sound a little like sour grapes to me, maybe someone didn't make the cut, or wasn't good enough for our 'inferior' training.

Bide your time F1, TDK will be along soon to put him back in his place as before.

No B/S about the training, it is fact about the classroom training part. What they do and don't cover I don't know, but bear in mind this is the first time HH have had to train up drivers from stratch. Freightliner is run by accountants and it is tighter than a submarines window! Getting drivers out in the shortest time is what they want.

How about we get this thread back on track? (excuse the pun) It's turned into some sort of inter-company poo flinging contest that's not helping anyone...

To answer the top bit... We're getting on ok. Couple of weeks left of rules then Wagons and traction follows that some of which is in the classroom, some out and about. During the second week we went out with a driver from our respective depot. It's done to get people who might not have a railway background familiar with the job and some of the things that make up the railway Infrastructure. You have a log book to fill in over the week. Also the depot at Toton is Sandiacre when you search for it.
Hope that this might answer a couple of your questions, cheers Dave.

If you are in the Holiday In that we stayed inn it's a fair trek to the classroom at Basford Hall. You go down Gresty road and you'll go under the railway bridge and it's on your left. Just keep on following that road.. It's quite along way down...

I'm sure the training will meet the required standards otherwise the ORR and several other bodies would be non too impressed. They have to have a certain amount of understanding for training for their safety case, surely?!?!?!?

And cheers ToastLaser [Dave!]

Had a look on Google maps, about a 15 min walk which isn't too bad........easily doo-able if I'm getting the train there from Wolves, which to be fair, is easier than the M6!!! Especially coming back Friday afternoon!

4 shifts to go + locker day/exit interview!

It wouldn't be a problem picking you up at station if you got to much to carry if it's any help

Cheers jgooding!

The hotel's not far from the station at Crewe and I'll just have a suitcase with me so shouldn't be an issue unless it's peeing down!

May grab a lift in the morning though to the training centre if possible?

What time are people getting there for on the Sunday????

I'd give it 25 mins from the hotel to get to the training centre if walking. I found the google maps prediction a bit close to the wire on the first day. It's further from Gresty road than it looks.

Bigd - I've arranged for the hotel to put a waterproof mattress cover in your room. Just incase 'it' happens to you again! ;)

Hey guys,
Was just wondering. Is the FLHH depot at Doncaster in same place as the container depot?
I was passing today and thought I'd check it out. Google only gives the container depot at Donnie.
Not long to go now!
