The T&Cs don't prohibit it, but in practice websites, TVMs, and booking office TISs will not apply the discount unless two tickets are sold.

I haven't been through the whole process to complete a purchase yet but, for example, the first great western app enables me to purchase an individual ticket with the two together discount applied.

The Two Together Railcard does not offer a discount on Child tickets, so unless there is already a child offer for the route (Kids for a quid for example), they pay half the non-discounted fare.

I've seen GTX, GX, GEX and STX before in something that is at least semi-official. Never seen SEX used anywhere (unsurprisingly).
You need to get out more and broaden your horizons... ;)

I think any initiative that encourages rail travel, where possible, should be welcomed. However like a great number of other responses the stipulations for travel could've been looked at better. I suppose it has been a fine line for those responsible for setting this up as to how the card is administered. It seems to me though the onus will be back on guards and ticket collectors when someone travels incorrectly using one of these cards. Experience has shown me that some current travellers are unaware of the terms and conditions for railcards they use. What makes people think this will be any different?

If there is not a child offer, Groupsave (where available) or a Family & Friends Railcard may be more appropriate.

I've had confirmation that holders of the Two Together railcard are not able to use a discounted Off-Peak Return ticket on any Virgin Train (unlike holders of other railcards). The railcard can only be used on trains which depart after 09.30 on Monday to Friday (and afternoon/evening restrictions also apply). I suppose it would have been an obvious loophole for business travellers to exploit.

To be fair, the other Railcard holders do still have their Railcard conditions to abide by (minimum fare/group size for example) it's just the ticket restrictions that are lifted for them.

The t&c's say that discounts are not available for travel between 04.30 and 09.30 Mon - Fri. As the various booking engines show the discount applied to tickets on trains departing at 09.30 and thereafter it would imply that you would be travel on a train departing at precisely 09.30

That's a strange ticket. BRFares doesn't seem to have that fare in the database.

Very strange ticket, I think it must be a manual input ticket. Wouldn't like to be the clerk when accounts see that was issued.......

Interesting start date too.

Maybe there's been some agreement about Christmas Day working this year. Not before time! :D

Bought two Lancashire Day Ranger tickets yesterday with our Two Together railcard, no problem at all. Which can't be said for actually purchasing the railcard.

From which station and was it from a Ticket Office, a train Conductor or a TVM? I have emailed Northern about this and not yet had a reply. It would be useful to know thanks.

It was from the ticket office at Preston.

I emailed the contact us bit on the railcard website asking if it could be used on the Lancs Day Ranger and got this reply

Good Afternoon,

I'm afraid that the Railcard cannot be used to obtain a discount on these kinds of tickets.

Thank you for your email.

Kind Regards,

All very confusing.

All very confusing.

I went onto the railcard Facebook Group site and asked and they confirmed that Rover tickets cannot be purchased with this railcard.

It sounds odd that the railcard is designed for the off peak leisure market but can't used to buy an off peak Rover with it.

Although according to the GB Rail Rover Guide you can buy a North West Rover ticket with the TT card.

Could it be that the people from the Railcard sites are just not aware of the full details of their product? the Rover guide site also states the TT can be used for Lancs Day Ranger which is the case.

Another anomaly is on a North West Rover you can travel from 0845 M-F. But if bought with a TT Railcard it can only be used after 0930 M-F!

It's not an anomaly as such, it's just the restrictions and conditions applied to the ticket/railcard.

First great western seems happy to sell an all line rover online with Two Together discount. Not progressed to payment stage, but interested to know what happens if I bought two.

Would it be valid if I had the ticket?

The GB Rail Rover Guide lists the availability of the Two Together railcard for rovers and rangers as per what was valid according to BRfares.com dated 22 Jan - it is assuming that what was valid then remains valid now. This has so far been born out by those on this thread who have purchased rovers and rangers.

The following are believed to be valid:
Cherwell Valley Day, Cheshire Day, Cotswold Discoverer, Cumbria Day, Cumbrian Coast Day, Cumbria RR, Dales Rambler Day, Devon Day/Evening, East Yorks RR, FODC, FOSS, FOSW, Hadrians Wall Day, Heart of Wessex Day, Kennet Day, Lakes Day, Lancs Day, Looe Valley Explorer, North Country Rover, North Downs Day, North East RR, North East Rover, North West RR, North West Rover, Oxford Evening Out, Oxfordshire Day, Ride Cornwall, Sth Pennines Day, St.Ives Bay Line, Thames Branches Day, Thames Rover, Tyne + Tees Day & Yorks Coast Day.

The ALR has now been added to the FGW website (as stated above) so one assumes you can also purchase this at ticket offices.
One needs to be careful with the Two Together railcard and the ALR as tickets are only valid up to 04:29 Mon-Fri so cannot be used through the night.

Any additions/alterations to the list would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,
Kev

There are some anomalies.

The Two Together conditions say it cannot be used for rail / sea links to the Isle of Man.

But the Shipping Links page on the internal knowledgebase says that it can.

Hmm, in general that would presumably mean that the only sleepers on which you can use Two Together discounted tickets at all would be Friday nights, or the Sunday before a bank holiday Monday.

You can get the Two Together discount added for weekday sleepers when buying online. I assumed the 04.30 restriction applied to the time the journey started.

That may be so BUT the website itself states that it cant be used on most Rail rovers and rangers.

Ive got something about this at work somewhere if I can find it. Seems to be confusion all over about it.

I think there must be an unpublished easement in respect of the sleepers otherwise it would restrict using a sleeper on the last day of validity on the return portion of an SVR, or on the last day of an ALR, both of which I have done without incident.

So just to clarify, hopefully a ticketing expert on here can help. If I manage to buy ALR tickets with Two Together discount and sucessfully get them in my hand, can a guard then turn round and tell me they aren't valid?

What would happen then? A ticket irregularity form with the original ticket confiscated? Could I complete a rover with one of these?

The railcard twitter site is very ambiguous and the railcard spokesperson says they are speaking to the TOC's about accepting two together railcards on rovers.

You may be right - I just checked on East Coast and it was prepared to offer me the TT discount on the 03:35 from Leeds to Manchester (arriving 04:58) but not on the subsequent 04:50 (arriving 06:00). It would appear to be applying the restriction to the time you board each train, not the time the journey starts, as it wouldn't give me an itinerary on that 03:35 service if I ask for a ticket to anywhere beyond Piccadilly (with a connecting service departing after 04:30).

But the T&C says plainly that "Discounts are not valid for travel between 04:30 – 09:30 hours, Monday to Friday, except on Public Holidays."
