The T&Cs don't prohibit it, but in practice websites, TVMs, and booking office TISs will not apply the discount unless two tickets are sold.
You need to get out more and broaden your horizons...I've seen GTX, GX, GEX and STX before in something that is at least semi-official. Never seen SEX used anywhere (unsurprisingly).
The Two Together Railcard does not offer a discount on Child tickets, so unless there is already a child offer for the route (Kids for a quid for example), they pay half the non-discounted fare.
I've had confirmation that holders of the Two Together railcard are not able to use a discounted Off-Peak Return ticket on any Virgin Train (unlike holders of other railcards). The railcard can only be used on trains which depart after 09.30 on Monday to Friday (and afternoon/evening restrictions also apply). I suppose it would have been an obvious loophole for business travellers to exploit.

From which station and was it from a Ticket Office, a train Conductor or a TVM? I have emailed Northern about this and not yet had a reply. It would be useful to know thanks.Bought two Lancashire Day Ranger tickets yesterday with our Two Together railcard, no problem at all. Which can't be said for actually purchasing the railcard.

Good Afternoon,
I'm afraid that the Railcard cannot be used to obtain a discount on these kinds of tickets.
Thank you for your email.
Kind Regards,
It was from the ticket office at Preston.
I emailed the contact us bit on the railcard website asking if it could be used on the Lancs Day Ranger and got this reply
All very confusing.
I went onto the railcard Facebook Group site and asked and they confirmed that Rover tickets cannot be purchased with this railcard.
It sounds odd that the railcard is designed for the off peak leisure market but can't buy an off peak Rover with it.
Although according to the GB Rail Rover Guide you can buy a North West Rover ticket with the TT card.

One needs to be careful with the Two Together railcard and the ALR as tickets are only valid up to 04:29 Mon-Fri so cannot be used through the night.
Hmm, in general that would presumably mean that the only sleepers on which you can use Two Together discounted tickets at all would be Friday nights, or the Sunday before a bank holiday Monday.
The GB Rail Rover Guide lists the availability of the Two Together railcard for rovers and rangers as per what was valid according to BRfares.com dated 22 Jan - it is assuming that what was valid then remains valid now. This has so far been born out by those on this thread who have purchased rovers and rangers.
The following are believed to be valid:
Cherwell Valley Day, Cheshire Day, Cotswold Discoverer, Cumbria Day, Cumbrian Coast Day, Cumbria RR, Dales Rambler Day, Devon Day/Evening, East Yorks RR, FODC, FOSS, FOSW, Hadrians Wall Day, Heart of Wessex Day, Kennet Day, Lakes Day, Lancs Day, Looe Valley Explorer, North Country Rover, North Downs Day, North East RR, North East Rover, North West RR, North West Rover, Oxford Evening Out, Oxfordshire Day, Ride Cornwall, Sth Pennines Day, St.Ives Bay Line, Thames Branches Day, Thames Rover, Tyne + Tees Day & Yorks Coast Day.
The ALR has now been added to the FGW website (as stated above) so one assumes you can also purchase this at ticket offices.
One needs to be careful with the Two Together railcard and the ALR as tickets are only valid up to 04:29 Mon-Fri so cannot be used through the night.
Any additions/alterations to the list would be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
Kev

You can get the Two Together discount added for weekday sleepers when buying online. I assumed the 04.30 restriction applied to the time the journey started.
