It's only when you get the job you really understand that all the tests and hoops you jumped through hits home. When you turn up on your first day and get all your uniform, rule book and sectional appendix and all the other stuff do you feel proud to have secured the position.
Honeymoon/holiday can wait in my opinion and life has to be placed on hold once you take the job but it's worth it.
Everybody knows that you rejecting the position is just a quick call to another candidate who will take up the position-job done.
Just my opinion but if you can't rearrange a honeymoon how would you go on possibly being residential for up to Five months depending where you live of course?

I wouldn't turn down a £ 43k job for a holiday if I currently had no job at all. Thats just too much money at stake. You can book leave during training once you get past the classroom stuff.

Conductor training I am going for and I come through the talent pool.
did my assessments back in April

Are you conductor? Why mention drivers?

And well done!

I am quoting the HR Woman when I mentioned drivers as she said there would be some in the august training.:

Hmm, someone must be getting a call tomorrow then as I am led to believe the internals are all on courses already

Not all of them, a guard was told only last week he was starting the drivers course this Monday.

More guards/internals have been sent for testing for MDD and Mainline roles the last couple of weeks.

I met the Vic new starters on their induction Tuesday. 5 or 6 of them and only 2 were internal.

I know of an internal that couldn't be released from his/her current role for the July driver course, and has been promised release for the next available course from his/her manager!!! We shall see!

I hope there is at least some externals on the next few courses. Certainly a lot of conflicting stories on here.

Good luck to everyone waiting

Northern are pretty desperate people at the moment for staff. Experienced ( and even inexperienced) people are leaving them for a variety of reasons and that is reflected in their numerous service cancelations of late. Be warned that staff morale is at an all time low at Northern, particularly in the Manchester regions, so I only hope you know what you're potentially getting yourselves into. Good luck, anyway, you'll need it!

What was/is your reason for leaving?

Drivers leave Northern to move up to TPE or other TOC's/FOC's. Not really their loss, moving away from suburban work to express work is a step up the ladder.

The next intake of trainees is pencilled in for the end of September. As ever, numbers/depots are subject to change and there will be a round of interviews for new candidates in late August or early Sept.

Hi Llama, would you know if that would include Mcv?

Is anyone else attending the induction on 4th August.
I'm starting as a conductor (Skipton).

There's a couple on here pal, good lads from their posts.

I'm in week 9 of my course, you'll love it,hard work as you would hopefully expect.....but good fun and, from my point of view,a great decision :D

best of luck
