How does this work:

MTR Crossrail welcomes applications from a diverse range of candidates regardless of background, disability or gender and is committed to creating a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve.

I've got poor eyesight, surely that would disqualify me?

It only says they "welcome applications" it's by no means a guarantee of suitability. So whilst your application is welcome, it is also unlikely to be progressed. Harsh, but cest la vie

You must be 21 to be passed out but they MAY take you at 20 providing you don't drive alone until 21.

To be honest, there is no rush to apply as there are always trainee driver jobs about, especially in London. Give it 4-5 years at least so you have a bit of life experience and then start looking for vacancies.

The closing date is quite a way away, 4/8/15 apparently!

From what I hear it is a pretty large recruitment drive and the website says 04/08/15 so makes sense! The qualified positions are sooner though.

I hear it is mainly the older drivers with only a few years to retirement that are volunteering to transfer over from AGA (as this will be a great pension booster) as there is zero variety in the work - hence very good salary even by driver standards ??

Would certainly do wonders to the pension just before retirement! Heard similar.

Even closer inspection still reveals application closing date 04/08/15 as well.

Yes well thats just stated on the vacancy list, 'looking closer' would mean clicking and reading the job description and so forth...and lets be honest 15/02/2015 seems more of a realistic date, so for those applying i would suggest sending your applications by then, rather than waiting till august.

No it is also stated within the job details when you click it if you're being that pedantic? Not sure why they have both dates but as I said before its a big drive for a company that as yet haven't began operations.

I would say being pedantic is a great characteristic in applying and pursuing this career but going back to what im saying i never disagreed i only stated that by looking closer it also states the 15/02/2015 being the closing date and to me its more of a realistic date, it is you who made it an issue.

Presumably a pretty limited route card?

Liverpool St to Shenfield initially, but by December 2019 Reading / Heathrow to Shenfield / Abbey Wood.

Traction is 315, to be replaced by 345 eventually.

3 different signalling systems too. Standard 4 aspect on Great Eastern, Automatic Train Operation in the Central Tunnel, and ERTMS on Great Western, so a fair bit to learn.

Out of interest why does transferring over help the pension? Surely its all one scheme?

Final salary pension.

Based on the last two years basic before retirement, so it certainly pays to work your last couple of years with one of the better paying TOC's if you can. Clearly there are lots of other considerations and not everyone approaching the age of 60 might want to do the type of work on offer with Crossrail, but it is an important consideration nevertheless.

Hi all, first post on the site. It says you have to live within 40mins of the station. Is this during the application process or once you are offered a job as i live up north but am willing to relocate anywhere in the country.

In the application process it says you have to live within 40mins of the depot. I live alot longer then that away but im willing to relocate if im offered a job. Will they accept this or will they ignore my application when they see i live a few hours away from the position im applying for?

Apparently process may take up to 9months for them to recruit.

Anyone gone further than online questionnaire stage?
