Have to laugh at all the United loving papers today with words in headlines like thrash, humiliate. Um, yes they beat us, we were pretty bad but a 2 goal margin is not a humiliation. 1-6 at home is a humiliation.

United were due to win one against us sooner or later and that's what you get with a 250+ million team.

City had as many attempts at them, missed a lot of chances (story of our season), they scored 2 goals which were offside and they have the most expensive ever team and squad in PL history (I guess they did not do a cost comparison on the 2 sides on TV or in the papers).

So yes, we were awful, we have been in 2015 so a great time to play us, but it wasn't an humiliation.

I have to say that you were pretty bad. I totally agree about the Man Utd spending. People were moaning like mad when Man City and Chelsea spent big but no one says a word when it's Man Utd

They had a monopoly on the transfer market for 15 years and no one said anything, how many times did they break the British record?

I remember a graphic on Sky Sports a couple of seasons ago when Man City played Chelsea. When they showed the team formation, rather then showing the players names they showed the transfer fee. Then made a massive thing about how their spending was obscene.

Back to the game though and you have to agree Man Utd deserved the win. They did have the majority of big decisions go their way as usual but I don't think it would have made much difference. When Chris Smalling scores then you know your in trouble. Him and Jones are basically oafs.

Hi,

I don't want this to turn into a platform of match analysis etc, or indeed a place for talking about how awful it is, but something that has just cropped into my mind is how many rail enthusiatsts actually like the beautiful game too?

I can think of a few members on here, yet trains and footy never seem to be two things that go together...

So, anyone else like football?

Matt

I go to quite a lot of our away games and I often go by train. Planning in advance and with a railcard, I can get some real bargains but I have been bitten a couple of times when the game has been called off.

Have to say it may have just been evened up because Kompany has just gone in for a challenge that may well have been a red. I've seen loads of them given as reds, poor challenge.

This posting shows that you do indeed have a truly-felt inner sense of proportion and I offer you my most sincere thanks to you for making such a considered posting.

One thing that did strike me watching the Manchester Derby yesterday was the number of half and half scarves in the crowd. What is that all about.

That's not the football supporter I know but I suppose times are changing and the money at the top of the game is just obscene now.

I dread to think of the reaction if I walked around here in a half and half Grimsby/Scunthorpe scarf.

The scarves I can just about tolerate, ridiculous though they are.

This, on the other hand, should be a criminal offence

Being a hardened fan I don't really like the half and half scarf. I can kind of understand them on big European nights when Real Madrid or Barcelona are in town but not against your fierce local rivals.

I think sadly (and I don't just mean Manchester United in this) it shows the mentality of the modern football fan. So many of these 'fans' have zero connection to the club, they simply 'follow' them because they are successful and it makes them happy. How many people do you see with their phones out recording the players rather then stood up, chanting and actually get behind the team.

Perhaps (at 29) i'm just old school. To me, Football is with the old man, a few of the lads, few beers, a good sing song and then home. Phones, half and half scarves, cameras round neck and only singing when we're winning doesn't come into it.

I've never got the half and half scarf thing either - I guess it's a sort of "I was there" type thing, which I can sort of accept for big, big games (I'm thinking Champions league finals), but for a standard league fixture - even if it is a derby - that will exist next season, and the season after that, and the season after that (you get my drift) I don't understand.

It wouldn't have gone down well just before Laws was sacked!

Tbf I imagine some of the fans at the derby weren't sure which scarf was their teams so they went for the 'half and half' to be safe

29? Not that old school then, but I totally agree with your sentiments.

I've just turned 50 now and I have traveled the length and breadth of the country following my beloved Grimsby Town. At the last count I had been to 158 different grounds (only 4 of those not to watch Grimsby).

I just can't get my head around why someone would want to support a team that they have absolutely no connection with. I hate to see all the plastic Premiership fans walking about the Town centre in their replica shirts. To me supporting a football team is more than just that. It is part of who you are and where you're from even if (as is the case now) the thin times are vastly outweighing the thick.

With regard the top-four positions in the English Premiership, it would be interesting to review matters after the playing of two specific matches this coming weekend:-

Saturday, 18th April
Chelsea v. Manchester United

Sunday, 19th April
Manchester City v. West Ham United

Arsenal, on the other hand, have a certain F A Cup match to occupy their minds.

Each to their own on what team they support.

I'm a Chelsea fan and if anybody calls me a glory hunter...............I point out that I was there when we lost 6-0 at Rotherham and when we came within a few points of being relegated to the old Division Three.

Chelsea away, one of Grimsby Town's most memorable games. 17th of December 1983. We were 2-0 down but came back to win the game 3-2 with Tony Ford scoring the winner.

The other memorable thing about that day (for all the wrong reasons) was it was the day that the IRA bombed Harrods so there was very little press representation at the game that day as everyone had been called away to cover the bombing. I remember it was a nightmare getting around London that day and I think the attendance was just over 13,000, by far the lowest gate at Stamford Bridge that season.

Chelsea went onto win Division 2 that season with a final day 1-0 win at Blundell Park. I can remember that Chelsea fans were everywhere in the ground that day and there was a fair amount of trouble.

Yes I remember those games, I think Kerry Dixon got the winner?

I remember losing 2-0 at Blundell Park in Dec 1980 the first time I went there.

Hearing rumours Man city have sacked pellegrini. The same sources say Brendan Rodgers is their no 1 target.
No factual evidence to back up at this time

He is still in the job at the moment but surely he's on borrowed time? Brendon Rogers seems unlikely, maybe that rumour was started by disgruntled Liverpool fans?;)

... I could go on but I'm sure you must be a bit bored by now. :)

I don't wish to bring back heartbreaking memories, but what date was it when Grimsby Town were top of (as was then) Division 1? It was quite recently (in the grand scheme of things) and it's so odd to see how far they fell so quickly thereafter. Still, at least you have a chance of getting back to the League this year :)

It was September 1st 2001, the same day that England won 5-1 in Munich. We beat Barnsley 1-0 in an early kick-off to go top of what is now The Championship. It only lasted for one day though.

Just after that we won 2-1 at Anfield with Liverpudlian Phil Jevons scoring a last minute extra-time screamer to win the game.

Since then though, apart from a 1-0 win over Spurs in the League Cup in 2005 it's been all downhill.

Such was the torrential afternoon rainfall in Hyde, that the local Hyde v Stockport County derby game only made it as far as half-time before matters of the playing surface became farcical and the match was abandoned.

Hyde v Stockport rematch took place this evening and it finishes Hyde 1-1 Stockport.

Oldham draw 1-1 to Coventry tonight which Coventry scored in 90th mins to ditch us all three points :( looking on BBC Football website I see that Oldham had only three shots in whole of game to 30 from Coventry so I shouldn't complain about equaliser goal.

Bristol City have become first team to be promoted as they beat Bradford 6-0, Preston could only draw in they match tonight mean if Bristol City beat Coventry on Saturday then Bristol City will be crowd champion of League One.

Those following teams who seem to be permanently near the bottom of their leagues should take solace that good runs by struggling teams can occur, as proved today in the Scottish Premiership by Ross County who won their fourth consecutive league match and those 12 points gained have taken them from bottom to tenth, out of the two relegation places.

Since I made this posting on 7th March, Ross County have carried on their amazing run of Scottish Premiership league results and in their last nine league matches, they have won eight and drawn one.

Can someone clarify a Scottish Premiership matter for me, as it seems there is something of a problem said to exist about the final five matches period of the fixture list.

The league is divided into two halves after 33 games, with no one being able to move from the top half into the bottom half and vice versa after that.

Each team then plays each of the other five teams in its own half once, giving a total of 38 games per season for each team.

Another pathetic performance summed up by our previous captain scoring for Norwich and winning a penalty. (A penalty to the opposition at Elland Road, well I never)

4 defeats in a row. What a diseased shambles of a club.

Meanwhile Wycombe scored their winner from the penalty spot on 101:45 on the clock (that's the 12th minute) of injury time in the second half. There was only that much stoppage time as Nico Yennaris went down for 5-6 minutes on 90 minutes and the original added on time was 6 minutes so still needed to be played.

The championship top 4 is going to the wire, I wonder what will happen with regards to the trophy at it's location on the final day if all 4 teams remain within 2 points of each other?

Porto beating Bayern Munich 3-1 :o

They never get presented with the real thing. Its always a cheap replica made up for presentation. I would expect a number of replicas to be made.

That was a bit of a shocker although Bayern will no doubt fancy their chances of turning it around in the second leg

Nice to see that on the anniversary of Hillsborough the Mail managed to run a huge out of date story about Raheem Sterling doing Nitrous Oxide and moaning about his contract offer.
