Why no exit doors on the front of class 700 EMUs

Class 319s were built with emergency exit doors at each end, but not the new 700s. Have regulations changed or have the tunnels been modified to allow people to exit through normal doors when their is an emergency evacuation?

319s only had nose end doors as they ran through single bore tunnels to moorgate. The 700s won't run through Barbican and moorgate and so don't need nose end doors. All the tunnels they will run through are wide enough for a side evacuation. In an emergancy you would use side doors over nose end anyway as it's easier and quicker.

The replacement for moorgate trains on the NCL will need nose end doors however.

The 700s are longer than the tunnels which A-driver refers too. Note you can't do side evacuation at these point but the walk through design means is not a issue.

Plus a wide cab windows had other benefits like good view for driver for signal sighting.

That's fair enough, the people who read it will know what it means, and it should be spelled out in full the first time it is mentioned.

Not sure why this has become such a big thing.

Someone asked what the abbreviation meant and I told them. It needs no further discussion...if you don't understand something all you need to do is ask, not make a huge meal out of the abbreviation being used in the first place!
