Hi all,
I recently travelled from Ayr to Edinburgh on a standard off-peak ticket. Having bought the tickets well in advance (came in the post) I was surprised to see they were rejected in every ticket barrier, citing assistance needed. I am keen to know why I couldn't get through and needed to get them checked by a person. I was using a 16-25 pass at the time and thought this could be the reason even though it doesn't happen in England.
Thanks.

Probably the Gateline had been set to Reject Railcards when you passed through.

Yes, I thought that could be the case but to be rejected at four separate stations (Ayr, Glasgow Central, Glasgow Queen Street & Edinburgh Haymarket) is suspicious right?

Actually thinking about it, I think it's more likely that the mag strip had been wiped or something like that.

Nothing suspicious. Gatelines often reject perfectly valid tickets for all sorts of reasons. Just show the ticket to the assistant and you will be on your way.

Next time if an error code is shown, note that and we should be able to look up the reasons for you.

Yeah no hassle I showed them the ticket and I was on my way. Thanks for the replies.

I often find that the ticket barriers at Edinbugh, Glasgow (both Central and Queen Street) and Dundee reject the return half of tickets that have previously worked fine with the barriers where I started my journey further south. So I suspect that they are set to reject tickets that other barriers will accept.
