Supposed it depends who you talk to. Just before xmas a current depot driver told me that hes expecting Bedford courses early 2016

I asked the training manager at Bedford who does all the course logistics!

Yet someone else says 10-14 new DI's have been recruited and more courses will be imminent.

Its Chinese whispers

And a lack of understanding.

There is a difference between training courses and trainees needing a DI

Whats good about this forum, is, if anybodys got info, that can share it on here and give hope to those waiting anxiously

Whats bad about it is, sometimes opinion gets passed off as fact.

Someone posted a few weeks ago, all recruitment has been frozen and no more courses at all. Yet someone else says 10-14 new DI's have been recruited and more courses will be imminent.

Its Chinese whispers

All of those DIs have alreadu been allocated trainees. There are a lot of traineess sat around just waiting for a DI and rhey simply arent available.

My wife wouldn't accept what I had read in this forum and wasn't happy with just hearsay, so made me call HR up yesterday.

I got the response I expected. I was told that they are "awaiting operational managers to give them dates" and until that time they have no information.

The standard default response, I asked the question via email on medical expiry and the question was dodged twice, I'm going to have to ring them

RE Medical Expiry

People are panicking unnecessarily imho

Plenty of talent poolers have sat in the pool for longer than 6 mths, got a course and not had to re-take a medical.

Unless GTR tell you in writing, dont worry about it.

Pretty certain the Dr that took me for my medical said that I wouldn't require another for thee years from that date so mine expires June 2018.

It has changed. Under the old Train Driver Licencing regulations, medicals were valid from 3 years. So every three years as a Train Driver - you would need to go for a medical.

Now, with the new European Train Driving licencing regulations, medicals are only valid for 2 years > plus they are a lot more in depth. But this is currently only for new trainees and qualified drivers who hold a new European Train Driving Licence. Certain medical providers (who tend to do a lot of corporate medical stuff) seem to have been caught on the back - foot about these new regulations and don't seem to understand what / how...

However, it is up to individual operating companies at the recruitment stage how long a pre-employment medical is valid for. Legally, the absolute maximum is 2 years for trainee/qualified drivers but a specific TOC might only be say for 6 or 12 months depending on their HR policies in force at the time.

Looks like this week could have the next lot of people being given dates... The rumours shaking about Great Northern are particularly strong with this one!

One of the former FCC staff (now with GTR), was told last September that they had been accepted for a trainee position with the GN side.
They have just been told in the last week or so that their course will be starting in September of this year....

To be honest it's just getting worse and worse waiting. I saw on the news gtr getting bad news due to its lack of drivers and trains. It would be great just to get a phone call. It's just getting bad by the day constantly waiting.

Hey everyone. Haven't been on here in a while. Didn't think I'd STILL be waiting after all this time. I phoned HR a couple of days ago for an update to be told there's no dates yet, they can't tell me anything else and I just have to wait. I spoke to Trudy I think.
I'm waiting for Bedford and have been since I passed everything back in June/July after applying in Feb '15!!!
I wonder how many people are left for Bedford and how many have moved on to other employments/TOC's as they are fed up with waiting?
My life has been on hold since I started this process. It was never explained to me that it would take this long.

I would guesstimate theres about 15-20 on this forum alone for Bedford... Same as lifes been put on hold waiting for a start date ... Just thinking it cant be too long now

They don't expect people to be in the pool for more than 12 months, since passing DMI has anyone been waiting longer than that?
