My guess is that they probably thought the staff involved would have more pressing things to deal with.

Indeed, and I'm sure it's the right decision, but of course it was fodder for the usual 'sack Govia' awkward squad on Twitter.

1F28 has run into trouble of some description, possibly debris on the line, just before Balcombe Tunnel Jn. Down Fast blocked. EDIT: Now moving.

Redhill-Tonbridge now reopened.

All Crosscountry services normally scheduled to terminate/start at Paignton, Exeter or Bristol (essentially the hourly Manchester services) now turning back at Birmingham New Street from the north, rather than Bristol Temple Meads.

Just the hourly North East - South West service continuing south from Birmingham to the West Country, coupled with a blanket 50mph speed restriction between Tiverton and Penzance (in place since this morning), and diversions via Westbury between Bristol and Taunton due to signalling problems.

Blanket speed restrictions on some lines on the Western, earlier signalling problems meant no trains between Dorchester and Weymouth.

Trains are running again in Cornwall after the fallen tree was removed from lines at Bodmin.

No cross country train services running west of Bristol and no trains running between Cardiff and Swansea.

All lines west of Cardiff now suspended, right out to Fishguard.

As I understand it, train detection equipment has failed and there's a problem with a level crossing just outside Cardiff.

Voyager struck a fallen tree near Bodmin this morning. Both lines are blocked. Flooding on Looe branch line resulting in no services for a while. Line now re-opened.

Evacuation of train made with Fire Service assistance for passengers to join coaches. 57303 (Sleeper Loco) went to assist damaged set but eventually the 221 moved to Laira under own power to turn on the triangle. Being attached to rear 1M83 at Plymouth to get home eventually at Central Rivers.

Cross Country ARE still running west of Bristol. The Hourly NE/SW services are running still.

Line currently closed between Tiverton and Exeter due to a fallen tree.

It's just the "short" ones such as Exeter only and Paignton trains that suspended beyond Bristol.

No Charing Cross - London Bridge services due to an obstruction at London Bridge. Trains to divert to/from Cannon St which remains open.

Cross Country still subject to delays and cancellations though - the Dundee - Plymouth didn't make it beyond New Street.

The amount of severe disruption seems to be less than anticipated so far but still substantial.

Now hearing that the obstruction on the line at London Bridge is actually part of the roof.

EDIT: Removed very rapidly. Lines should open soon.

This thread is turning into a real, er, blow by blow account!

Didnt realise the Jokes thread had been merged into this one

A temperary part I hope? Otherwise it doesnt bode well for the longterm sustainabilitty of this (very expensive) rebuild does it?

God bless them. They're doing all they can to see that TfL takeover approved.

but TfL do not want to, and will not, take over Brighton Mainline, West London, Oxted, Redhill, Mainline West, Mainline East, Coastway West, Coastway West or Gatwick Express routes; it'l only ever be most of the Metro routes shown here.

And won't include Thameslink either. See: the extensive thread on the recent announcement for more.

It's been chaos all over the GWR network today - Many trains running over an hour late. One Portsmouth Harbour service was running two and a half hours late at one point (and was capped at Southampton). There was also a fault with the signalling system between Bristol and Bath causing all services severe delays. A XC HST on diversion pulled up to a red signal at Bath Spa station, along the platform which was a strange sight!!

Brighton to London is (literally) 'inter-city'. One ought to be able to achieve a 35 minute timing between the two. "Transport for London" does not quite fit this image does it?

It's all IMO related to the idea of the LBSCR / SR being a glorified tram service. Same applies to Pompey and Southampton and all the SR lines. Even from as far out as Axminster, I feel I am getting on a tube train with a drinks trolley.

Brighton inter-city? I don't think so. Portsmouth and Southampton are both major cities and are long distance destinations in their own right and are strategically more important than a overrated & glorified seaside resort.

Last time I checked Brighton was a city (with Hove) and London was a city, so anything running between them must surely be inter-city. Brighton is certainly a much nicer place to be than either Portsmouth or Southampton - but that wasn't the point being made.

According to realtimetrains, 2E22 1200 Swansea - Pembroke Dock terminated at Tenby today due to the heat.
