Example, when the Ordsall Curve is completed, I assume trains will leave Piccadilly 13/14, head west before the curve, and then on reaching Victoria, be heading east (roughly).

Adderton/Alness in the north of Scotland you go due east at one point, and due west c.25km further down the line.

Any good examples?

Fife and Cathcart Circles ;)

Edinburgh-Aberdeen, you leave Edinburgh going West, but you are going East after Inverkeithing. The approach to the Tay Bridge is North-West but you go into Dundee pointing East. There are near 180°'s to the South of both Montrose and Aberdeen.

Glasgow-Aberdeen trains at Perth turn through more than 180 degrees between approach to the station from the south and when they pass Barnhill box after they cross the Tay.

Middlesbrough to Sunderland because of the way that Teesside is laid out.

Green Road heading towards Carlisle.

Dore heading towards Nottingham on East Midlands Trains.

Blackpool South heading anywhere.

Another planet...
Huddersfield to Sheffield isn't quite in the WRONG direction, but it is far from direct. Although the stretch to Berry Brow isn't actually a full 180°, it sort of feels like it... and then there's the irritating detour into Barnsley.

Peterborough-Norwich trains used to change direction but still go forward, just before Ely, but now they reverse at Ely.
Bradford-Leeds trains travel in opposite directions, depending on which line
Leeds-Hull, depending on if using the Woodlesford-Castleford route or not
Sunderland-London, Grand Central one way and VTEC the other.
In Germany, Leipzig, Stuttgart and Frankfurt-am-Main stations traditionally have lines pointing in the same direction (they have newer through lines)
Ipswich to Derby Road
*I suppose some of these are 90° rather than 180°

Whilst not completely off track (pardon the pun), Cardiff Central to Grangetown services depart westwards, before taking an immediate south.

Two posters above refer to Eurostar services; in which case it should be noted that the fact the LGV Nord runs via Lille means that between Calais and Lille one is actually getting further away from Paris while heading towards it, and vice-versa. The geography of the line in the Lille area itself results in a quite sharp reversal of direction for some distance.

By the way - shouldn't this thread be in the "infrastructure" section?

Oxford-London via Bicester.
Leeds-York via Harrogate.
The GN headed west out of Leeds before turning south-east towards Doncaster.
The original Manchester & Leeds (L&Y) headed first west, then east out of Leeds on the Midland before turning west again after Altofts. A big S on the map.
The G&SW turned from north-east to west to reach St Enoch in Glasgow, after crossing the Clyde.

The straight line distance from London to Glasgow is 342 miles (runs through Leicester, Glossop, Burnley, Kendal and Wigton west of Carlisle).
The WCML is 401 miles, so it must put in 59 miles of indirect running.

How about Barrow-Carlisle.
After leaving Barrow you do a big 'S', at one point you are heading almost due south.

Depending on the service, lots of trains depart Newcastle eastwards, before heading over the high-level bridge, through Gateshead and then westwards to Carlisle or South down the ECML. You also inevitably get a passenger looking very panicked as they realise the train is going the "wrong" way.

A train leaving Cambridge for Ipswich is heading due north before making a ninety degree turn to go east.

Skelton Junction. If you're going to Manchester you want to go North East but a bit of the curve goes South.
