Are you sure? Two from the Central have already gone with one more next week. And a lot have already been told what depot they're going to with a very rough time frame... If you want an East end depot then you'll be waiting a while! (5 years minimum for some)

I've heard that they are currently recruiting approx 150 part time drivers...

A few more have gone to FT from other depots.

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to say thank you, this forum is great and really helped with preparation, I attend AC1 last Friday and have been invited to AC2 this Monday. I haven't interviewed in a long time so a bit nervous about that aspect.

Can anyone advise if they stick to the 3 listed competencies or if they include other questions? Also it says I can take notes into the interview, has anyone else done that?

Thanks Again.

Hi meeseeks I am currently in the middle of assessments for gtr passed to enhanced level the group bourdon (dots) trp 1 and 2 and the tea occ as well as a dfft . I have the sjt and mmi plus wafv and atavt and two hand joystick thingy in 2 weeks. I have been looking at night tube as I would love to do it plus more time to do extra work to bolster salary until able to go full time I am sure I registered and set up alerts for vacancies but nothing has come up am I missing these vacancies or am I looking in wrong place etc any help would be appreciated

Unless I've misread your post, it sounds like you'd like to do the part-time tube driving whilst training with GTR (if successful in your application for both roles).

Doing both jobs won't be possible as there may be a conflict of interest or at the very least, I'd be incredibly surprised if GTR management allowed you to do the second job.

At some point during the GTR training, you'd be put on a rotating shift pattern whilst front-ending, during which time you'll be undertaking a "safety critical" role. Likewise with LuL, you'll be undertaking a "safety critical" role. You will not get sufficient rest before working nights after finishing work for GTR on a Friday, which is further complicated by the fact that the rotating shift pattern includes Saturdays.

Apologies if I have misread your post.

Hi

Congrats for AC1. Did you book AC2 with a Tfl link or they sent you that date?
How did you find AC1 by the way?
Wish you all the best for AC2.

No need for suit at this stage. People have went in wearing their work uniform from security guard to bus drivers etc. Just shirt and trousers is fine. Tie not needed even. Honestly they're not looking at appearance at this stage. As long as it's not tracksuit obviously lol.

AC2 is interview where you'll be 1-2-1 with recruiters so make sure it's suited and booted then.

I'm familiar with the process myself as a qualified driver with a toc just wondered as the email he forwarded me didn't state ant dress code so would rather him be overly smart than under dressed. Thanks for the heads up

Thanks, I was sent a link with the invite, they only had sessions for this Monday available. AC1 wasn't too bad, wasn't sure how I had done on the Concentration test as I didn't get as far down the blocks as I would have liked. It was well organised and they explained everything well.

Thanks for the clarification. I very much appreciate the support from this forum as a whole. Very valuable.

Is there anybody who still hasn't heard back from from TFL following their email which said we had done well but had not met the cut off target but they would review and come back in a months time?

I was (and am) on that list but had an email recently saying that they still have not decided what they will do with us and they will update us in August. Did you not receive that email?

Hi Pudsey,

I'm in the same boat as you but haven't had that email which is strange. Wondering if there's different groups of people? I might give them a ring on Monday. Cheers mate

For those of us left in the reserve pool, here is a thought. I wonder what the dropout rate is amongst those that got through, started training and for whatever reason then dropped out. Or another thought, what percentage of new recruits are actually asked to leave as they don't meet standards.

Just some random thoughts while waiting our turn.

Hi All,

For anyone who has already taken the AC2 or is preparing too, the documents provided say that taking notes into the interview is allowed and encouraged. Who has or intends to do this? I worry it may come across as being less prepared but cannot deny that having some prompts would help me.

Thank you in advance

Hi Jetlagged

My first question would be are TfL still paying you? If yes, have you signed a contract agreement? If yes, then it will be very hard for the company to release you unless you have been at the heart of a major accident/incident or gross misconduct, and also for drug and alcohol use whilst on duty or after random screening. Remember that once they've agreed to take you on board with a contract signed, they've decided per the signed agreement to invest in your career and development until you meet TfL standards, conduct, rules and regulations as a train operator or whatever to want to become later on with the company.
That's the reason why people are often been advised not to give a formal notice period to your current employer to leave and join another unless you have signed a contract or agreement with the latter.

I hope this helps. I wish you all the best.

There is a specific clause in the contract that states it's conditional upon passing all stages of training successfully.

There is a pass mark for the assessments throughout training and if the mark is not met at any point you may (and people have) be taken off the training and had the job offer withdrawn.

I've just had my AC2 (so waiting nervously), and I did prepare (detailed) examples to take in to the interview having seen that guidance. I asked if I could use my notes, but was informed that I could use them as a quick memory jog, but was not allowed to read from them. I would use a simpler bullet point format if I had another chance.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you Peanloma thats really useful. Fingers crossed for you and I hope that you are not kept waiting too long to find out.

How were the interviewers? Friendly and relaxed or more formal? Did they stick to the three competencies or were there other questions?

Thanks again and best of luck

I would not have expected anything less. Training a driver is a very expensive investment and they cannot be expected to carry on with that indefinitely if the trainee is not up to the job.

On the subject of cost, up until now I have been involved in the bus and coach industry. I know that there are many companies that offer driver training and some of those include a contract term relating to training costs. My previous employer for example, got sick of training drivers only for them to leave once they obtained their licence. Consequently, he introduced a clause saying that on completion of their training they had to stay employed with him for two years. You were free to leave anytime before that, but had to pay back a portion of your training costs calculated on a sliding scale, based on your length of service.

Thanks for your good wishes Successboy. This waiting is killing and any encouragement helps! :D

Bus companies include this clause in the contract for trainee drivers but in fact, it's unenforceable.

Why is that? Surely, if you sign a contract agreeing to the terms, you would held in breach if contract if you failed to meet them.

There's such a thing as an unfair contract and I believe this falls into that category. I'm not sure why or how, as I agree that once you sign to accept something you should be held to it.

Hi bart1234,
My experience was quite formal, but I read that others have had a more friendly and relaxed approach - it probably depends where you have your AC2 and who you see. They did stick to the competency questions (apart from a couple of non-assessed 'tell us about your current job' type ice-breakers) As usual, prepare for the worst and hope for the best ;)
Good Luck
