So, after a discussion earlier with some friends, I was wondering if it is possible to buy a ticket from Charing Cross to London Charing Cross. If I'm reading everything correctly, it's not possible (you can only get Charing Cross to London Terminals). Have I failed to think of some way of getting such a ticket?

It will either have to be to London Terminals or Zone U1 London.

Gateline wanted a closer look when I was heading north from Kings Cross on a ticket to CHC - they were fine when they read it carefully.

I rather doubt that there is a valid all-rail route between the two stations.

However, if it's just an amusing routing you're after, you could follow the example of a colleague who got one of his free passes (this was many years ago) issued as Bat and Ball to Bowling.

I looked up fares from Whitchurch to Whitchurch via Whitchurch which came up with some wide ranging fares for the journey from Wales to Hampshire via Shropshire. Although all basically the same route the lowest Advance of £49.50 was in stark contrast to an off peak of £407.50.

What about the two Gillinghams or the two Rainhams?

( Outside the UK< there is always the old chestnut of Silly to Ath in Belgium... )

Leigh-on-Sea (Essex) to Leigh (Kent) (although, like the two Gillinghams, each is pronounced differently). Or Reedham (Surrey) to Reedham (Norfolk)

I once asked a Scotrail conductor on the Highland Main Line for return to Charing Cross. I was going to Glasgow of course but after some jabbing and fiddling with their machine, without hesitation or apparent concern asked me for something like £190. We managed to have a bit of a laugh about it but ever since I've been careful to ask for Charing Cross Glasgow.

I've also heard a story from quite a few years ago which is someone asking for an reprint of a worn out or demagged annual season between Edinburgh and Charing Cross and getting presented with nine months of unlimited travel between Edinburgh and London Terminals. Tempting you would think, but not much use for getting to work in Glasgow every day.

Ely to Weeley is one I've always wanted to buy. Though I've no idea how Weeley is pronounced so it might not be as amusing as I like to think it is.

Edinburgh to London Terminals is valid via Glasgow....

Hmm I am not sure, an advance maybe? I know that you can buy a ticket from London Wateroo to London Victoria route: "Not Underground". There should be something similar.

I once toyed with the idea of a Eurostar trip from Waterloo to Waterloo (Belgium), but never managed to do it. I wonder if somebody has done Ham Street to Sandwich for fun, as they're quite close to one another?

Until they closed the German one (near Hannover) in about 2000 you could go from Hope to Hope via Hope if you wanted.

Now, in Germany, there's no Hope.

(I'll get my coat :) )

One of my favourites is Manor Park to Manor Road.

Confuses many a guard/train manager

In the Black Forest, there's a station on the Höllentalbahn (Hell's Valley Railway) called Himmelreich (Kingdom of Heaven).
Plenty of photos available, e.g. https://www.myheimat.de/augsburg/fr...talbahn-ins-himmelreich-m2637860,2517387.html

And for English speakers, there is always the option of a trip to Hell in Norway - however the German one is better as it makes sense in its own language.

My apologies BTW to the OP for starting a forum hare running.

No they are not that close. Ham street is south of Ashford. Sandwich is 50 minutes away from Ashford. Ham is a little distance from Sandwich.

It would be very funny though
