From the local rag (MEN)
Protestors have stormed the tracks at Manchester Piccadilly meaning ALL train services are currently cancelled or delayed.

Crowds of campaigners are currently sitting on the train tracks outside outside the station.

The trespassers, who are brandishing banners which read ‘Stop Turkey from helping ISIS terrorists’, are blocking way for trains on several lines.

National Rail say services are likely to be disrupted until at least 3pm this afternoon.

Rail bosses have warned passengers that services may be amended, cancelled or delayed and are asking travellers to check journey before setting off.

A statement on the National Rail website reads: “A trespass incident at Manchester Piccadilly is causing disruption to trains at the stations.

“Trains may be amended, cancelled or delayed.“

To get attention and make it into the news.

But yes it's ridiculous and they should be doing as you suggest instead.

Reports on the MEN link that some are trying to climb OLE structures. Does the panel think it should be isolated, or leave it live and let Darwinism take its course?

I hope arrests get made. Not just them being escorted them off the premises.

Seems to be a different set of rules for the loony left whingers in this country.

They will but with 300-500 people the police are not exactly resourced straight away for that.

when I first read the news alert on my phone I thought it was a HS2 protest!
Loads of them too, you'd had thought the Police/BTP would have some sort of intelligence about the protest.
This is still on the CPS books- Section 36 Malicious Damage Act 1861 - obstructing engines, or carriages, or railways

Looking at the banners they have with them they don't really know what 25kV means. I assume the power is off. Protests about ISIS I think.

MEN has the story:

A statement on the National Rail website reads: “A trespass incident at Manchester Piccadilly is causing disruption to trains at the stations.

“Trains may be amended, cancelled or delayed.“

One hopes that the BTP will be in a position to make plenty of arrests for trespass.

I wonder what the response would be if trains were to be kept running, just to clear those already on approach, say, with movements at walking pace. I suspect they'd move out of the way a bit sharpish.

I'm reminded of Arthur Dent and the bulldozer.

Well from what I could see in the video in the MEN website, one of the banners says 'Free Ocalan' (or thereabouts) which I guess is in reference to the continued detainment of Abdullah Ocalan', leader of the Kurdish separatist group in Turkey.

Kurdish related protests, hopefully British Transport Police will do what they [should] do with anyone else caught trespassing on the railways and arrest them and charge them with trespass.

They've probably been watching the news about Lewisham and thought the tracks were a free for all. Hope regular announcements are being made lol

The outcome of this may be interesting. There will need to be repercussions for at least some of those responsible, otherwise it will only encourage others to use the same tactics.

Probably not a tenable position, but if it were up to me I would be putting out a warning that in future OLE will be left live and trains will continue to run, anyone on the track is there at their own risk and accepts responsibility for the consequences.
