A pity both sides were drawn in the semi-final, as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid entered the tournament the proper way i.e. they won their top flight division at the end of the previous season.

As Liverpool and Roma both won their top flight divisions back in 1990 and 2001, they should not really be participating in the tournament at all. My hometown team Aston Villa who won the European Cup in 1982 against Bayern Munich did it the proper way by winning the top flight division at the end of the previous season.
So when Man U won the treble it shouldn't count because they weren't league champions when they qualified for the Champions League they won?? When then they won it that time they got beat twice by two different teams having not qualified as champions.

Bradford Park Avenue and Chorley both win their play-off quarter finals against higher-placed opposition to advance to the semi-finals, where they play Brackley and Harrogate respectively.

Hmmmm yeah. Real Madrid got through by one goal at home. Roma tonight had one goal after the ball fired in off Milner and another from a **** penalty.
I said I’d buy a bottle of Red on the way home tonight if Liverpool won. They didn’t.
I bought one anyway...
Fair play to Roma, they earned some pride back tonight with their performance.

Did they? Harrogate doesn't surprise me - they crack under pressure but i thought Stockport would beat Chorley

Kidderminster losing the playoff against BPA after resting players and losing to them on Saturday is great  Chorley are great at grinding out 1-0 wins, they're huge underdogs against Harrogate but you wouldn't bet against them.

A Chorley v Bradford PA final would make a mockery of the play-off system, 7th in a 22 team league is basically mid-table o_O:lol:

I don't see why that would make a mockery of the play offs but it is quite remarkable how often the lower placed clubs come out on top, they probably have a nothing to lose attitude whilst all the pressure is on the higher placed hosts.

The fact the ridiculous 6 team play off exists at all is a mockery. Thank god the nonsense didn't filter any further down the tiers.

If we're going to have play offs then I think that system is better in that it gives an advantage to higher placed clubs.

The venue of the final is very many miles away from the home areas of Liverpool and Madrid and I wonder just how much atmosphere will be generated by the fans of both sides.
It’ll be enormously loud I expect, like it was in Istanbul in 2005.

Reminded myself last night why I hardly ever bet. £6 I'll never see again. Ha ha. Salah to score, Firmino to score and Salah to score first.

I think the atmosphere will be great.

We've got thirteen days of rest between the Brighton game and the Champions League final too.

The Bradford dream lives on for a few more days at least. A great performance again by the lads last night.

And yes it would be a tad unfair on those above us both in the NLN and the NL itself were we to go up. In fact, Blyth almost made the play-offs having lost 21 of their 42 games. Next season with four down, half the league will either go down or be in the play-offs.

With extra time and penalties a possibility and the last bus out of Brackley on Sunday at 1740, I'm driving down the day before and taking in Coventry vs Morecambe. Coventry need a point to make the play offs and Morecambe need a point to stay in the league. Could be interesting. Should also be time to do the Northampton & Lamport.

Looking forward to a good afternoon at Hurst Cross (Ashton United) tomorrow as Grantham Town aim for National League North. :D

If you go up, it won't be unfair on anyone: everyone knows how play-offs work and the teams finishing higher get home advantage. It really annoys me when people disparage play-offs as unfair because they clearly aren't unfair: it shouldn't be a surprise that sometimes a team that finished 6th gets promoted, everyone knows the rules. If your team finishes 3rd and doesn't get promoted, it means a team from below beat them: ergo, they didn't deserve to go up.

Sorry, rant over. Without play-offs the season would be over by Pancake Day for most teams.

Apparently, Roma should have had two more penalties, so I predict their luck with decisions at vital times in the last two ties, will run out in Kiev. Not that I in any way support RM, and I have never liked that arrogant "CR7".

By 'eck. Thatcher town in (Margaret) Beckett country - and they say that football and politics should never mix (lol). I must admit, I don't remember how many go up/down in the lower leagues, and is this a play-off. Or to put it another way, could the east end of Ashton by swapping divisions with the west end (Curzon)?

In the A-League, Melbourne Victory have defeated the Newcastle Jets 1-0 to win the title.

However the deciding goal will come under the microscope with the VAR giving it the all clear despite the Victory players being offside

Play off for promotion from the Evostik Premier (Northern Premier League) up to Conference North, alongside Altrincham FC.

Two teams promoted.

We should have had a penalty to.

Spoken by a true believer in the "alternative rule book" that many football supporters really believe is far superior in its definition of the laws of the game than the "official one" that referees have to be fully conversant with.

Being somewhat churlish today, I have emboldened the last word of your quote above and wonder what you would have done with the penalty, as you did not finish the sentence.

Looking like Stoke City will be playing in the Championship next season, leaving only one place to fill... the next eight days are going to be agony!

I think the "luck" we've had in the Champions League is the least we deserve after the ridiculous amount of decisions which have gone against us in the league this season.

I suppose Stoke City went in 1-0 up at half-time with some hope for their Premiership future, but two second half goals from Crystal Palace shattered that particular aspiration.
