Thanks for the excellent site, Nick. Any chance you foresee PlusBus sales at any point?

I'd like to, and our back-end can support them, but at the moment Raileasy don't sell them. Next time I speak to them I'll raise it.

Nick, I know you must be quite a busy chap, but have you thought about incorporating rover tickets or would this be a step too far?

Regarding my post #145 above, I can't seem to find on the website the tickets I booked on 29th December for travel 20th & 22nd March. It's telling me I have an account under my email address, but then asking me to log in via Facebook, and then telling me no bookings found. Would this be the case if I had booked as a Guest (I can't remember)? Just wondering what the situation is if bad weather cancels my trains. I do have the actual travel tickets.

Have refunds been discussed somewhere in the thread? I'll do a search if so.

Yes. @trainophile if you'd booked as a guest there's no way to associate the booking with your account. If you want to PM me the email address you used, I can PM the booking through to you if you want it.
If bad weather cancels your trains, you can get a full refund from Raileasy, or you can choose to travel on an alternative itinerary as near as possible to the original, if that's possible (and then claim delay repay if you choose a later one).

Oh cheers Nick, hopefully my journeys will go as planned, but thanks for explaining what I can do if events beyond anyone's control scupper my plans.

Nick, as much as I love TrainSplit, I don't like opt-out marketing tick boxes. At the moment it is already very questionable in terms of whether they give proper consent (and without proper consent sending email marketing is illegal) - and from May 25th when the new GDPR applies, opt-out will not be acceptable. So if you could change the app's default from opt-out to opt-in I'd be a lot happier :)

Is there a way of finding out the cheapest return journey across two days, so it locates cheapest outward and then cheapest return?

If it isn't possible would implementing such a thing just take too long to run and/or overload the servers running all of this?

Also I was using the app today with the work WiFi and I just kept encountering an error. However mobile data connection was fine so might be some issue to do with our firewall policies. The Web Site works though at work. Was just the app.

Trainsplit already offers this.

If you are specifically looking for flexible fares (e.g. Off-Peak Returns) then use the website, not the app, and change the selection at the top from "Fixed Time" to "Flexible" (in the box labelled "Step 1").

The app is pretty good, but is more limited than the website - e.g. it doesn't offer a 'via' point option, nor any of the advanced options the website does.

I'm not looking for a flexible ticket though as they are more expensive.

I'm looking for the chepatest fixed ticket across one day.

It may not be technologically possible as it might use to much computer processing power and time but I just wanted to mention it to see if it were possible.

If you're looking for the days with the cheapest advance tickets I know Virgin Trains have a tool that works for their routes. Trainline also has a cheap fare finder to do that.

Recently Loco2 also published statistics about what days usually have the cheapest advance fares available, although I don't remember which day it was!

Would it be possible to have the option to select either 'Depart after' or 'Arrive before for each leg of the journey? I often want to check times/fares based upon leaving after a certain time outbound and arriving back on the return before a certain time, but there doesn't appear to be an option for this?

Aha, I understand now - you'd like to be able to search for a journey on a particular day (or a return journey on two particular days, i.e. one day out and another day back) and be presented with the cheapest split ticket combination for those two days.

I imagine, whilst technically possible, it'd use too much processing time and power and perhaps result in too many queries to the NRS.

You can get Trainsplit to do what you want by using the 'earlier' and 'later' journey time options, but obviously this will take a while to research all the splits found for a return journey across two days.

Given it the time it took for my requests I guest processing power was the issue.

Train split can find cheap split advances.

Take Hendon Bridge to Milton Keynes. That came out at £115. The split, via two advances, much cheaper. I mean around £30 in total, so a lot cheaper.

I am not sure it would be viable ; you are asking for around 48 hours worth of possible itineraries (including slower itineraries, as these may be cheaper) and, for each of those itineraries, calculating the cheapest Advance splits, and then displaying the cheapest overall results.

I didn't think it would be possible but I thought I'd ask just in case.

One day computers will be powerful e ought but ticketing will have moved on.

The issue is NRS: journey planners are only allowed to request 5 journeys in each direction, because of capacity constraints with NRS

Alistair is correct. There are strict limits on the number of journeys you can request from the NRS, and therefore the number of advances you can calculate. Systems can look at past NRS calls to gain an idea of whether there's "likely" to be availability, but can't give an accurate answer until you get to the basket stage. Expanding this to a full day, or several days, would be highly inaccurate, even if you're already making the number of calls that someone like Trainline is, simply because of the number of services every day, and the multiplicity of fares available.

Hey, I'm searching for Guildford-Haywards Heath via Waterloo journeys (In order to spend the day in London), but it doesn't seem to be taking the advised double back between Clapham Junction and Waterloo into account for the tickets. (See attached image) Just a bug I presume?

Not a bug; there are long standing doubleback easements allowing doublebacks between Clapham Junction and Victoria (Easement 700013) and Waterloo (Easement 700014) respectively.
